Data Sheet
Updated: 10/09
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
OlyBond500™ Green is a two component
polyurethane adhesive system based on renewable
resources. OlyBond500™ Green is VOC (Volatile
Organic Content) Free. By minimizing the use of
fossil fuels and utilizing plant based resources,
OlyBond500™ Green contributes toward various
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) credits. OlyBond500™ Green is available in
two sizes:
• The OlyBond500™ Green new, easy to use bag in
box package for use with the PaceCart 2 mixing/
delivery system.
• The OlyBond500™ Green SpotShot (28oz tubes)
which are sold as a set (part 1 & part 2), for use
with the SpotShot Application Gun.
Basic Use: OlyBond500™ Green is used to adhere a
variety of board stocks to a variety of roof substrates
in both new and re-roof applications. It can also be
used to adhere insulation board. OlyBond500™ Green
is dispensed in a semi-liquid bead that spreads
to several inches before rising 3/4"-1" above the
substrate. The board stock is placed into the adhesive
and walked into place. A chemical cure takes place
in approximately 4 to 8 minutes after application,
depending on temperature and weather conditions.
Compatible Roof Decks and Substrates:
• Lightweight structural concrete
• Poured in place structural concrete
• Pre-cast concrete
• Treated plywood (5/8" min. thickness)
• Various smooth BUR and modified bitumens
• Steel-22 gauge or lower with approved cross section
• Existing sprayed in place polyurethane foam
• Cementitious wood fiber plank
• Base Sheets
• Insulation concrete
• Gypsum
Compatible Roof Insulations:
• Expanded polystyrene
• Polyisocyanurate
• HD Wood Fiber
• Dens-Deck®
• Perlite
Potentially Non-compatible substrates:
(These and any other substrates not listed above
must be review and approved by the roofing
Membrane Manufacturer.)
• Coal tar pitch BUR
• Gravel surfaced BUR
Application Features:
• No thermal shorts caused by fasteners
• Chemical cure results in faster set-up time
• No pre-drilling into concrete
• Rapid application
• Strengthens system
• Reduces re-roof and construction noise
Post-application features:
• Board stock is securely adhered to substrate
• Lowers potential for building contamination
• Wind uplift resistance is maximized
Composition and Materials:
OlyBond500™ Green is a dual component, reaction
cure polyurethane adhesive. The blowing agent is
water (no HCFC). OlyBond500™ Green is available
in bag or Box sets of diisocyanate (Part 1) and resin
(Part 2) or in a dual tube set (Part 1 and Part 2).
Limitations:
Do NOT use OlyBond500™ Green:
• With isocyanurate board stock larger than 4' x 4'.
• When ambient or substrate temperatures are below
45°F or above 120°F.
• During inclement weather.
• On wet surfaces.
• On any roof deck that shows signs of deterioration or
loss of structural integrity.
• On dirty or grease-laden surfaces
• After the expiration date. Contact Olympic at
1-800-633-3800 for options and instructions.
TECHNICAL DATA
OlyBond500™ Green is packaged in Bag or Box
Sets consisting of Part 1 (diisocyanate) and Part
2 (resin) or in dual tube sets (Part 1 and Part 2).
OlyBond500™ Green is approved by most Roof
System Manufacturers and is approved by FM.
Temperatures:
• Store containers between 45°F and 95°F. At these
temperatures, the shelf life is 12 months from the
date of manufacture.
• Check each product temperature with a clean
thermometer. The minimum product temperature
use of the OlyBond500™ Green dispenser must be
72°F. The minimum ambient and surface temperatures must be 45°F or above and rising.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Lightweight Concrete, Structural Concrete, and Plywood:
These surfaces must be free of any debris, dirt,
oil, grease, and standing water before applying
OlyBond500™ Green.
Built Up (BUR) and Modified: Surfaces must be free
of any debris, dirt, oil, grease, and standing water.
Contact the roofing membrane manufacturer for
details.
Steel: The upper flange of the steel deck (bonding
surface) must be free of debris, dirt, grease, oil, and
standing water. On new steel, the hop coating must
be removed. The bonding surface must be free of any
cleaner before applying OlyBond500™ Green.
Insulation: Review the roofing insulation plan.
Isocyanurate insulation boards to be attached must
be no larger than 4' x 4'. When installing multiple
layers of boards, apply the boards using staggered
joints.
Existing Polyurethane Foam: Remove the surface of
the polyurethane roof, including the coating, with a
scarifier (minimum 1/2"). The bonding surface should
be blown clean before applying OlyBond500™ Green.
Metal: OlyBond500™ Green has excellent adhesion to
clean metal. Prime all non-ferrous metals (aluminum,
copper, stainless, etc.) to further increase adhesion.
Acceptable primers include epoxy, chlorinated rubber,
and wash primer.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION
Pace Cart 2: Place the bag in box set in the tray of the
Pace Cart 2. Attach the hose coupling to the bag in
box system. Move the flow valve on the dispenser to
the open position, allowing the material to be pumped
at a ration of 1:1 through the static mixing tip and out
onto the substrate.
SpotShot: Remove stopper from cartridge and attach
mixing tip. Insert cartridge into the appropriate 1:1
ratio caulking gun. Using a steady trigger motion,
apply OlyBond500™ Green to the substrate.
Application: Apply the fluid mixture in rows spaced 12"
on center that spread to several inches wide before
rising 3/4" to 1" long. Lay the insulation board into
position and walk into place to assure complete
adhesion. Continue walking on boards until adhesive sets (4-8 minutes). Typical coverage rates are
between .75 and 1.25 gallons per 100 square feet,
resulting in the board achieving 60 to 75% adhesion.
The application rate must be increased for rougher
surfaces and will vary depending on roughness.

Important: When applying OlyBond500™ Green, board
stock must be placed into the adhesive while it is still
wet and tacky (before it reaches its tack free state).
Place insulation boards into the adhesive shortly after
it has reached its maximum rise. This typically occurs
within 2 minutes.
