ISU Council on International Programs
INTERNATIONAL GRANTS PROGRAM FOR 2014
The mission of Iowa State University is to create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the
world a better place. Our strategic plan states that we must prepare the leaders of our nation and the
world. To support this important institutional priority the ISU Council on International Programs is
issuing a Call for Proposals for grants that focus on student global experience of up to $5000 each to
be spent by June 30, 2014. It is anticipated that CIP will fund 12 – 15 grants this year.
Purpose: To fund individual and group projects led by ISU faculty and staff to expand the number
of students who gain an international perspective through participation in study abroad. Grants will
provide support for the development of new study abroad programs.
Criteria: The following criteria will be used to select projects to be funded:
40% Articulation of a plan for increasing the number of students who study abroad
30% Potential for expanded student impact and sustainability of the program beyond the period of
the grant.
20% Innovative nature of the proposed activity/program
10% Use of CIP funds to leverage matching funds from the proposer’s unit
Past grants have supported projects related to all three ISU mission areas. This year, CIP has
chosen to focus on the student learning mission area.
Use of Funds: Funds are available immediately. All funds must be expended by June 30, 2014.
The usual expenditures that occur under grants are acceptable, including salaries, student stipends,
travel, supplies, etc. Equipment purchases are not allowed. Funds cannot be used to cover
expenses that are normally included in foreign travel grants.
