Systems of linear equations, matrices, determinants, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, inner product spaces, orthogonal functions; vector analysis, including gradient, divergence, curl, line and surface integrals, Gauss’, Green’s and Stokes’ theorems. Prerequisites and Credit: MATH 221, MATH 251, or MATH 253; MATH 308 or concurrent enrollment; junior or senior classification or approval of instructor. Credit will not be given for more that one of MATH 304, MATH 309, MATH 311, or MATH 323. Colley, 8th edition (Leon), 4th edition (Colley), Pearson. This is a three ring binder especially for Texas A&M. Syllabus. The course covers most of chapters 1-6 (Leon) in Part I, and sections 8.4, 10.1, 10.2, 11.1-11.3 in Part II (Colley). Homework Homework will be collected regularly. Assignments will include multiple problems, not all of which will be graded. The midterm examination may be given at night. Each examination will count for 40% of your grade, and the homework for 20%. A total score of 90% or more guarantees an A, 80% or more a B, 70% or more a C, 60% or more a D. Attendance and Make-up Policy Attendance is mandatory. Makeups are subject to university policy. In accordance with university regulations, make-ups for missed exams and assignments will be allowed only for a university approved excuse in writing. Whenever possible, students should inform the instructor before an work is missed.
