ENG 1D1 INDEPENDENT NOVEL STUDY PART I: Choose a novel of approximately 200 pages in length. You must get approval for the novel from your teacher before you begin reading. PART II: Complete ONE of the following: A) A creative assignment – a collection of photographs, drawing, painting, poster, diorama, costume, or other artistic representation of your work. You may propose your own creative idea to your teacher. The artwork should be accompanied by a written explanation of your method and goals in creating the piece and, in addition, an assessment of your success in achieving the desired effect. This explanation and assessment should be one paragraph in length. OR B) A written report of 1-1.5 pages (12-point font, 1.5 spacing) Include the following elements: 1) A brief PLOT summary. This may be in point form and should be no longer than 10 lines. 2) an explanation of CHARACTERIZATION, THEME, IMAGERY or another literary aspect of the novel. Quote passages from the novel in order to support your discussion. 3) a connection between the events and/or characters from the novel to your own life or the world. PART III: Give a 1-2 minute oral presentation about your novel, using your written report or creative assignment as a basis.
