To: Members of the Western Illinois University Board of Trustees Steve Nelson, Chairperson Bill Griffin Blake Antonides Mike Houston Carolyn Ehlert Fuller Bill Epperly From: Joe Rives, Vice President, Quad Cities, Planning and Technology Date: June 30, 2009 Re: June 2009 Strategic Plan Update This month’s Strategic Plan Update provides you with a status report on the Electronic Classroom Upgrade (ECU) Program. As you know, Higher Values in Higher Education 2008-2018 contains the priority to “Maintain the multiyear electronic classroom upgrade program for general instructional and two-way audio-video (CODEC) classrooms on both campuses” as part of the goal to enrich academic excellence. The ECU program was initiated in summer 2008, with the understanding that general instructional classrooms are those classrooms that can be used for instruction by any college or department after the “home” department and college is given first opportunity for scheduling the room. Through combined efforts of staff from Physical Plant, University Technology, Quad Cities Technology, and in collaboration with end-users on both campuses, 23 of the University’s 127 general instructional electronic classrooms (18.1%) have been upgraded and another 17 (13.4%) are either in process or planned to be completed by the end of calendar year 2009. Adherence to this schedule will result in approximately one-third of the University’s electronic classrooms being updated within two years of establishing the program.
