In the first test, ACQ/PEAK exposures with the G230LB are used to dither the 0.1x0.09 aperture across a point source to sample the PSF. Relative counts at different wavelengths give a measure of PSF shape at different wavelengths. Full frame comparison exposures will also taken using the 0.1X0.09 and 52X2 apertures, and the relative aperture throughputs will give an estimate of the image quality at the STIS aperture plane. In the second test, the target is imaged onto the STIS CCD using the narrow-band F28x50OII filter. Comparison with previous OII images will be done to estimate the state of the focus. OBSERVING DESCRIPTION Six targets have been selected, to cover the BEA during the SMOV period. However, there are small periods of time (up to 30 hours long) during which none of these targets are in the BEA. Select the visit that best fits the SMOV schedule. Proposal is intended to be executed after the STIS-toFGS alignment (STIS-09; 11384) has executed, but in practice could execute anytime after (STIS-08 11383) "Aperture Wheel and Lamp Tests" has completed. Do not schedule this proposal at a time when unusually large thermal changes are expected in the aft-shroud. Because this proposal requires precise and steady centering in the aperture, it must be executed using two guide stars. There is no need to examine the data from any previous visits prior to the execution of this one, nor is there any need for rapid data delivery. While not essential for the success of this program, astrometric guide stars (UCAC-2 or Tycho) should be used if possible, so this program can serve as a backup to STIS-11 (11386).
