CHAPTER 2240 – RANGE IMPROVEMENTS
2240.3 – Policy
The following color scheme shall be used in establishing field markings for
planning and implementing land management activities on the forest. The colors
apply to markings made with ribbon, tags, stakes, paint or any other medium.
Red
Property boundaries, corners and associated monuments.
Cruise plots. Since both of these functions are used by
internal, technical personnel, the individual markings are
distinguishable enough to differentiate the two activities.

Yellow
Timbersale leave trees and cutting unit boundaries where
marked trees are intended to be left.
Blue
Timber sale take trees and cutting unit boundaries where
marked trees are intended to be removed.
White
Cultural site identification, FSM2361.21(9), ID #8
Orange
Precommercial thinning, reforestation unit boundaries, skid
trails.
Pink &
“Stripes”
Transportation facilities (predominantly pink, or pink striped
with other colors).
Silver and/or
Stand examinations.
Black & White Stripe
Lime-Glo
Use for other individual, point-identifiaction of projects, such
as stock tanks. Identify the project on ribbon with magic
marker. Use colors for linear projects, such as fences, water
lines, etc., avoiding conflict with other possible projects in the
area that may occur within the life of the marking.
Note: This color scheme supplement is included in all of the following SFNF
Forest Service Manuals. Any change in the content of this supplement must also
be made in the other supplements:

2244 - MAINTENANCE OF IMPROVEMENTS
2244.03 - Policy
The following range improvements will be assigned to permittees for
maintenance under Part 3 of the grazing permit:

All water developments except those constructed primarily for wildlife.
Corrals primarily for permittee use.

range improvements:
