CHAPTER 1670 - LIBRARY
1670.43 - Library Liaison Officer
The Technical Information Officer, FS-INFO-INTERMOUNTAIN, Intermountain Research
Station, is the Region 4 Library Liaison Officer.
1673 - ACQUISITION AND DISPOSAL OF INFORMATION MATERIALS
Region 4 employees are encouraged to use the services of FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN to the
greatest extent practicable. Employees may contact the INFO Center directly for the services
listed below. The Region 4 contact for issues relating to the management of the center is the
Resource Planning Specialist, State and Private Forestry, Regional Office (Phone: 801-6255259).
FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN services available to Region 4 employees include:
1. FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN Monthly Alert (current literature alerting service). The
Alert announces new publications relating to forestry in the western States. Each item in the
Alert is stocked at the Ogden center. Depending on supplies, either a retention or a loan copy
will be mailed when requested directly from the Ogden Center (Intermountain Research Station,
324 25th Street, Ogden, UT 84401, phone: 801-625-5444) or by submitting the cover of the
Alert.
2. General Document Delivery Services. All other published materials requested are
delivered by this service. FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN uses Forest Service libraries and the
libraries of cooperating universities to obtain material. The service is supported by the Regional
Document Delivery Service of the National Agricultural Library. FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN
also obtains materials from other libraries, including foreign libraries.
3. Reference Service Bibliographies and Information Retrieval. New management
programs and research projects generate a need for literature searches and other information.
FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN has computer-based literature searching capability as well as
reference resources in its own library and those of the cooperating universities.
4. Consultation with Specialists. The most relevant and recent information can often be
obtained only from a specialist. FS-INFO INTERMOUNTAIN provides contact with specialists
and researchers in the Forest Service as well as elsewhere. Call the Ogden Service Center for
instructions.
1673.1 – Purchases
Directors and Forest Supervisors have full authority to purchase expendable and nonexpendable
