Telephone calls are limited to one 10-minute call per day while in travel status. No calls may be made on day of return, except for notification of change in travel schedule. In the event the employee does not have a government calling card, telephone calls may be reimbursed. The employee must include in the remarks section of their AD-616 travel voucher a Statement stating, “the calls were made in accordance with the regulations governing communication expenses incurred while on official travel.” Employees may be required to provide length of time (e.g. total minutes of phone call) to substantiate excessive claims for reimbursement. Employees should indicate those calls that were made for official business. Telephone calls are to be made by the employee who is travel status. Calls made from the official duty station by co-workers and/or relatives must be for official business only. Personal calls will not be allowed.
