Subpart D – Privately Owned Vehicle (POV)
301-10 The following establishes policy for the use and compensation of private owned
vehicles on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. This is a negotiated policy with the
Forest Partnership Council.
During the winter months (November – March) for highway miles, not field related duties,
employees who are approved to use their POV for personal preference will be compensated at
the “if government vehicle available” rate.
Vehicles are assigned to a work group (see Exhibit 1). If within the work group, a vehicle is not
both available and suitable for the task to be accomplished, the employee may be authorized to
utilize their POV as advantageous to the government and be compensated at the “if no
government vehicle available” rate.
All POV usage must be approved by the employee’s supervisor prior to travel (see Exhibit 2).
Current rates are listed on the GSA website at www.gsa.gov/mileage.
