CHAPTER 302 - RELOCATION ALLOWANCES
Part 302-5 - Subsistence While Occupying Temporary Quarters
302-5.2 - Conditions and limitations for eligibility.
(a) Length of time allowed and location of new official station.
(1) Initial period of temporary quarters. Employees who elect to take a
househunting trip may be initially authorized no more than 30 days of temporary
quarters. However, if it is administratively determined to be necessary, an
extension of not more than 30 days may be authorized for employees not using the
Relocation Service contract. Employees electing not to use the Relocation Service
contract or a househunting trip may be initially authorized up to 60 days of
temporary quarters.
(2) Additional time in certain cases. If circumstances occur during the first
60 day period in temporary quarters which are determined to be beyond the
employee's control and are acceptable to the agency, an extension of up to 60
additional days of temporary quarters may be authorized. See parent text for
examples of compelling reasons justifying such extensions. See DM direction for
examples of reasons that will not be considered compelling reasons beyond the
employee's control. In addition, if an employee has entered into a purchase
agreement during their first 60 days of temporary quarters and the agreement has
an occupancy date within 120 days of when they entered temporary quarters, an
extension may be granted if the employee is delayed in moving into the new
residence due to an event occurring during the first 60 days in temporary quarters.
If the delay occurs after the end of the first 60 days or the occupancy date was more
than 120 days from when temporary quarters began, an extension cannot be
granted.
In order to qualify for extensions of temporary quarters beyond the first 60 days,
employees must submit a written request that describes the basis for the request.
If it is determined that the employee's justification statement meets the criteria in
the parent text and the Forest Supervisor or PNW Program Manager support the
request, it must be submitted to the Regional Director of Financial Management for
approval on an AD-206, Travel Authorization Amendment containing the
recommending signature of the Forest Supervisor or PNW Program Manager.
