CHAPTER 60 - APPENDIX R5 FSH 6509.22 - FIRE DAMAGES AND COST RECOVERY PROCEDURES Amendment No.:R5 6509.22-2015-1 - Effective Date: 10/2/2015 APPENDIX 1 - RAPID VOLUME AND VALUATION Following a fire, the Forest and the Region will need to have a quick estimate of the volume and value lost. On fires that exceed 1000 acres, the USFS Remote Sensing Applications Center in Salt Lake City will prepare a Vegetation Burn Severity Map for the fire. The Remote Sensing Lab in Sacramento will combine that product with additional FIA, slope and land classification information. This information will be used to estimate logging systems, determine volume of timber severely damaged or destroyed and determine the value of that killed timber. The data can then be entered into an Excel pivot table with various regional values pre-loaded. Current assumptions and average logging costs are shown in exhibit 01. Delivered log prices are shown in exhibit 02. The results of the analysis can then be summarized in a table similar to exhibit 03. Use a truck and driver cost of $75/hour (a). Assume the average loading on the truck is 8 CCF of timber. Note: Costs and values will be maintained by the Regional Office TM Staff and the spread sheet will be maintained by RSL.
