Located in Menomonie, a safe and friendly small city in the
state of Wisconsin, we are close to the large metropolitan area
of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Most students fly into the Minneapolis
International Airport (MSP) which is only a 1 hour drive to our
campus. A shuttle bus runs more than 13 times daily from the
Minneapolis/St. Paul airport to the city of Menomonie.

Menomonie’s climate is characterized by four distinct, beautiful
seasons:
• Summer (June-August), the most pleasant season in
Wisconsin—endless opportunities to enjoy outdoor
activities!
• Fall (September-November), temperatures are cooler, leaves
turn beautiful colors.
• Winter (December-March), although the weather is cold and
snowy, a cup of hot chocolate will warm your hands and
heart! If you come in January, please be sure to bring warm
clothing.
• Spring (April-May), temperatures begin to warm and flowers
start to bloom.
UW-Stout offers partial tuition scholarships
to qualified international students based
on their academic achievement or grade
point average (GPA) and their participation
in international cultural and community
activities. All students must apply to be
considered for the International Student
Scholarship. Students receiving other
types of scholarships are not eligible. The
total amount of scholarship can vary each
semester and is based on availability of
funding. These scholarships are awarded
on a competitive basis to full-time

UW-Stout offers an American Friendship Program to all international students. This
program provides students the opportunity to experience American life beyond the
University and makes students a part of the local community.
Most international students are a part of the International Relations Club (IRC) which
provides opportunities for creating friendships while learning about various cultures.
The club sponsors field trips to the Mall of America, museums, ski resorts, baseball
games, fairs and parks. IRC also organizes an annual International Week.
There are more than 145 student organizations – getting involved on campus is
one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll have throughout your college career. Qualified international students may have the opportunity to compete in 18 different
sports possibly at national level. UW-Stout is a proud member of the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). We are one of the Division 3 schools. • For additional circumstances where the

4. Declaration of Finances
•A bank statement certifying that either the
sponsor or the prospective student has
sufficient funds (of at least $25,318 in U.S.
dollars) to insure full payment of expenses for
the student’s first year
5. Official/Attested Academic Records
• Academic records from all secondary
and higher education institutions attended
• Original documents of official/attested
academic records, translated into English
• Course descriptions for all courses completed
at higher education institutions
• Submit the $106 application fee by credit card with the online application, log back in later
to submit the fee online or mail a check made
payable to “UW-Stout” to the Graduate School
3.English Proficiency*
• Submit official TOEFL score (school code 1740) with
a minimum iBT of 79 or paper-based score of 550
• Note: Applicants with TOEFL scores ranging
from 70-78 iBT or 523-547 paper-based
will be considered for admission and are
required to take at least one advanced level
language course through UW-Stout’s English
as a Second Language Institute.
• Submit official IELTS score of at least 6.5
• Successfully complete UW-Stout’s English as
a Second Language Institute program

4. Declaration of Finances

• Some programs may have stricter English
proficiency requirements and/or require
additional applications/materials. For
example, the M.S. in Applied Psychology
and M.S. in Food and Nutritional Sciences
programs only grant conditional admission
pending the receipt of an acceptable TOEFL
or IELTS score. To insure you are providing
all necessary materials, please check your
program’s website.
* Most programs allow students working toward meeting the
requirement to apply for conditional admission. Students
may resubmit test scores or complete an English as a Second
Language program to meet the requirement and then continue
on to the degree program. Please contact the Graduate
