As such this region has developed heterogeneity which is manifested in terms of stratigraphic sequences, depositional environment, structural aspects, paleobiota, and mineralization. This has also rendered the geoenvironment of region fragile and prone to geohazards like earthquakes and landslides. This small land has witnessed several devastating earthquakes, and landslides are quite common particularly in the rainy seasons. Preparedness of the society for facing such disasters is of utmost important. Recently, oil exploration activities have gathered increased momentum in the region. Occurrence of Uranium deposit in the Khasi Hills has proved the potential of the region for mineralization. 1. Assessment of the present status of knowledge in various aspects of sub-themes of the seminar 2. Identification of the gap areas of research in terms of global status 3. Identification of thrust areas of research with special reference to Northeastern region. Research papers are invited from academician, researcher and geologists from the universities, college, research institutes and industries covering major theme and sub-themes of the seminar. Arrangement shall be made for oral as well as poster presentation. Interested candidates are request to submit the registration form with abstract. The abstract can be mailed on or before 25th September, 2014 and the full paper on or before 15th October, 2014 to geologypucollege@gmail.com / bubulearth@gmail.com. Printed version of the full paper can be sent to Bubul Bharali, Dept. of Geology, Pachhunga University College, Aizawl-796001, Mizoram. Intimation for the acceptance of paper will be sent through mail. Proceedings shall be published containing selected papers after peer review. Geo-scientific community of the country from the research institutions, industry, universities and colleges is actively involved in understanding the processes responsible for such heterogeneity and in exploring the geological resources of the region and in assessing the potential of the region for geo-hazards. As a result, a large dataset has been generated covering various aspects of earth sciences including tectonics, geo-hazards, mineralization and exploration of oil and gas. The basic aim of this seminar is to provide a common platform to the geoscientific community of the country in general and from the Northeast in particular to present and discussion their research findings, assess the present status, find the gapareas and strategies future course of the actions for better and comprehensive understanding of the geo-environment of the region. The Dept. of Geology, Pachhunga University is going to organize a 2 Days National Seminar on Geology, Tectonics, Geo-Hazards & Natural Resources of North East India at the Pachhunga University college Auditorium during 3rd November to 4th November, 2014. About the Department Pachhunga University College is the oldest and premier educational institute of Mizoram established in the year 1958 affiliated to NEHU and it became a constituent college of Mizoram University in the year 2001. The Dept. of Geology established in the year 1984 and is the first institute offering Bachelor Degree in Geology.
