Global Course Description
Name: Differential Equations
Description: Ordinary differential equations, solutions in series, solutions using Laplace transforms,
systems of differential equations.
Textbooks: Elementary differential equations, Custom TAMU Edition, by Boyce and DiPrima.
Matlab : Ordinary Differential Equations using Matlab by Polking. 3rd Ed. (optional)
Prerequisities: MATH 251 or equivalent, knowledge of computer algebra system.

Exams Policy
In-class tests: Two in-class tests will be given on Monday July 20th and Monday August 3rd at the
regular meeting time in the regular classroom.
Final exam: A comprehensive final exam will be given on Tuesday August 11th from 10:30 am to
12:30 pm.
Quizzes: You will have 8 short graded assignments to complete.
Final grade: Final grade = 40% (First + Second in-class tests) + 35% Final Exam + 25% Quizzes.
Grading: A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F 0-59%
Appeal: Any discussion on your grade will be only possible within 1 week (starting at the
graded exam date). You have the possibility to check your grades via the eCampus
website. It is your responsibility to verify that the grades reported online correspond
to your actual grades.
Homework
You will have assignments to complete on a regular basis. The assignments will be posted on my
webpage at http://www.math.tamu.edu/~florent/. You do not have to turn in your homeworks
but it is highly recommended to work them out carefully since the material for the quizzes will be
taken from them.
Miscellaneous
Attendance and Make-up Policy
Attendance of lectures is extremely important. Make-up exams will be given only to students providing
a University-approved excuse. If you miss an exam, you have to notify your instructor within 48
hours. Otherwise the students forfeits his/her right to make-up. Excused absences for the exams

and final will be dealt with on an individual basis, but require convincing documentation. See
http://student-rules-tamu-edu/ for more details. Make-ups will not be given for quizzes. However if
you miss a quiz due to an authorized absence and you contact your instructor immediately, then the
missed quiz will not count.
