Global description
• Course name : Differential Equations
• Course description : Ordinary differential equations, solutions in series, solutions using Laplace transforms,
systems of differential equations.
• Textbooks : Elementary differential equations, Custom TAMU Edition, by Boyce and DiPrima.
Matlab (optional) : Ordinary Differential Equations using Matlab by Polking. 3rd Ed.
• Prerequisities : MATH 251 or equivalent, knowledge of computer algebra system.

Exams Policy
• Exams : Three in-class tests will be given on Tuesday February 10th, Tuesday March 10th and Tuesday April
14th at the regular meeting time in the regular classroom.
• Final Exam : A comprehensive final exam will be given on Tuesday May 12th, from 3 :30 PM to 5 :30 PM in
Blocker 133.
• Quizzes : You will have weekly quizzes (usually on Thursdays).
• Grades : Final grade = 40% (First + Second + Third in-class tests) + 30% Final Exam + 30% Quizzes.
• Required Averages : A 90-100%, B 80-89%, C 70-79%, D 60-69%, F 0-59%.
• Graded exams : Due to new Texas A&M regulation, the graded quizzes and tests are not returned in class
anymore. Instead, you are welcome to pick your copies up during office hours. Any discussion on your grade
will be only possible within 2 weeks (starting at the graded exam date). You have the possibility to check your
grades via the e-learning website. It is your responsibility to verify that the grades reported online correspond
to your actual grades.
Homework
• You will have weekly assignments to complete. The assignments will be posted on my webpage at http:
//www.math.tamu.edu/~florent/ on Tuesdays. You do not have to turn in your homeworks but it is highly
recommended to work them out carefully since the material for the quizzes will be taken from them.
Miscellaneous

• Attendance and Make-up Policy : Attendance of lectures is extremely important. Make-up exams will be
given only to students providing a University-approved excuse. If you miss an exam, you have to notify your
instructor within 48 hours. Otherwise the students forfeits his/her right to make-up. Excused absences for
the exams and final will be dealt with on an individual basis, but require convincing documentation. See
http ://student-rules-tamu-edu/ for more details. Make-ups will not be given for quizzes. However if you miss
a quiz due to an authorized absence and you contact your instructor immediately, then the missed quiz will
not count.
• Academic Integrity Statement : Remember the Aggie code of honor : “An Aggie does not lie, cheat, or steal

no tolerance for any violation of the Aggie honor code.
