Boren Awards for International Study
Boren Scholarships provide American undergraduate students with the resources and
encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the
future security of our nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal
government.
Maximum scholarship awards are:
 $8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only; 8 weeks
minimum)
 $10,000 for a semester
 $20,000 for a full academic year

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships
Benjamin A. Gilman International scholarships are open to all U.S. citizen undergraduates who
are or will be receiving a Pell Grant. To be eligible, the program of study must be a minimum
duration of four weeks; advisor deadline is typically 1 week after student deadline.
For programs beginning between December 15 and April 15, the deadline for application
October. For programs beginning between July 15 and October 15 including summer programs
between May and August, the deadline for application is March.

General Scholarships
Funding Amount: up to $10,000
Number of Scholarships Awarded: up to 20
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled as undergraduates in
US universities/colleges who plan to study abroad for at least four weeks between May 2014
and May 2015. Fund for Education Abroad awards are intended to support students planning to
participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs in the 2014-2015 academic year
or summer 2014. The financial support for these scholarships is provided by generous donors,
who are committed to increasing study abroad opportunities for dedicated American students.

Brandon Goodman Scholarship
The "BG Scholarship" was created in memory of Brandon Goodman. The scholarship is for high
school and college students. The scholarship is available to students in high school and also
students currently enrolled in college. You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, be a U.S. citizen or an
international students that is enrolled in school in the USA. Membership is not required to be
eligible for this award. You must submit an essay about your academic goals and your
contributions to your school and/or community.

Bridging Scholarships
Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these
scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and
must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States before and
during the time they are studying abroad. Their study in Japan must earn credit that will transfer
to their home campus in the US.
Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long
programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Students studying in Japan on
summer programs are not eligible to apply.

FREEMAN-ASIA SCHOLARSHIPS
For undergraduates with demonstrated financial need and planning to study in East or
Southeast Asia. Summer program must be min. 8 weeks; Quarter term program min. 10 weeks;
Semester program min. 12 weeks. Must have little or no experience in country applied for.
Preference given to students committed to East Asian language & cultural studies
Awards are: Summer: $3,000, Semester: $5,000 Year: $7,000.
For programs beginning between December and April, the deadline is Mid-October. For
programs beginning in the Summer, the deadline is Mid-February. For programs beginning
between August and November, the deadline is Early April.

Morgan Stanley Japan Scholarship
For students with an interest in economics and finance; must study abroad for an academic
year. The application deadline is the same as for the Bridging Scholarship with an additional 610 page written research component.

Taiwan Scholarship Program
This scholarship is designed specifically for students interested in studying Mandarin language
and Taiwanese culture. There are 3 different scholarships available. For each scholarship the

scholarship is for $500 which is held in financial aid to be used by the next qualified student who

Embassy of Spain’s North American Language and Culture Assistants in Spain Program
This scholarship program is designed for Junior and Senior undergraduates and college
graduates interested in teaching English language and culture in Spain. The length of program is

This scholarship is for students interested in studying critical foreign languages. Examples of
such as listed below. Application deadline for study in the Summer semester, is the previous Fall
semester. Knowledge and suggested skill level of one or some the following critical languages is
required for application.

AIFS International Scholarships
Each year the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) offers 100 semester scholarships of
$1,000 each (50 for the fall semester and 50 for the spring semester) and 10 summer
scholarships of $500 each. AIFS also offers one full minority scholarship and five $1,000 grants
to minority students each semester. AIFS offers a wide range of unique programs in Asia,
Australia, Europe, South Africa and the Americas. Most AIFS campuses offer courses in English
or in foreign languages from beginner to advanced levels, so you don’t even have to know a
foreign language to study abroad.

Graduate Level : JET Program
This program offers many scholarship opportunities and is designed for college graduates

Robert B. Bailey Scholarship
This scholarship is designed for students who show financial need and self-identify as belonging
to an underrepresented group in study abroad. For programs beginning in the Summer, Fall or
lasting for an Academic year, the application deadline is April 1. For programs beginning in the
Winter, Spring or lasting for an Academic year, the application deadline is November 1.
Awards range from $1000-$5000 depending on duration of study and financial need.
