The site serves as the journal’s web site and also contains a management system so all the work is done online. BENEFITS OF THE URJ-UCCS | Benefits for undergraduates as authors Great experience for resume y Makes research available via major web search engines like Google and Google Scholar y Improved web presence | Prospective employers and grad. schools look for | Sharing your knowledge and research! | Don’t let your hard work go to waste | This research is being used! EDITOR’S ROLE Regular leader(s) that oversees the process of putting an issue together | Works with the other roles to complete editorial and layout editing tasks | Usually does the final reviewing of papers | * There can be several editors (see chart below) Head Editor Social Science Section Editor Science Section Editor Reviewers Humanities Section Editor REVIEWER’S ROLE | Reviewers report to an editor and review a paper within a deadline. Time commitment tends to be a few hours per issue. Reviews papers assigned to them by an editor y Note: Reviewers typically have formal guidelines to critique paper on. These formal guidelines will come from the editor. Proofreads | Judges the acceptability of the paper for publication | Recommends edits as necessary | These are the most technical aspects of journal publishing. Requires attention to detail. ADDITIONAL ROLES | Copy Editors y y Checks for any typos Verifies all requirements are met for publication Requirements are determined at the publication level, but in general involve: 1. Works Cited 2. Proper citations throughout the paper 3. Abstract | Layout Editors y Format the paper for publication | | | Usually requires converting a MS Word document to PDF Formatting tables, charts and images as necessary Produce the finalized version of the article for publication ADVERTISING & MARKETING | Advertising to Readers Awareness campaign in the University y Promoting the journal off campus y | This is a huge process in the beginning, but after an official campaign is set up, it requires much less work. Marketing to prospective authors Identify potential authors or classes y Working with potential authors (getting them through the submissions process) y The Library will assist in the technical maintenance of the software and web site as well as provide advising as necessary.
