* Give this question real thought: “ Why do I want to change my major ”?
* Discuss your desire to change your major with your assigned faculty or department advisor to ensure that you are making the best decision based on your ultimate educational plan.
Some signs you made want to change your major:
1.
Are you uninterested in your current major courses?
2.
Are you doing poorly in your current major courses?
3.
Did you choose your current major without much thought, or with encouragement of someone else?
4.
Do you keep reading and asking about other majors?
5.
Can you not let the idea go of changing your major?
If you identify with three or more of these questions, then it is probably time for you to make a change. Even if you identified with only one or two of these statements, a change may be needed.

After this step, you should have a clearer sense of whether a change in major is desired or needed. Proceed to Step 2.
* Does desired major have more credit hours and require longer time to complete?
* Does desired major have limited enrollment?
* Does desired major require that you have prerequisites before being eligible to apply to the major?
* What can I do with this major?
* Should I double major?
* Should I add a minor instead?

UD Online Catalog – look at the courses that are required for the major. Are you excited about them? Do you think they will help you in your life and in your career? http://academiccatalog.udel.edu/
If you’ve done your due diligence and feel you have enough information to make an informed decision, proceed to Step 3. It’s time for some real soul-searching.

Self Analysis >>>
Do some more hard thinking.
* How many credits have you already accumulated in your current degree program?
* Will you be able to afford attending school longer than planned?
* Does your new major fit your personality?
* Seek professional career advisement and counseling.
* Are you positively sure you want to change major?
* Have a backup plan in case you are not accepted to the major of your choice.
Take a career interest inventory through the Career
Services Center or the Center for Counseling and Student
Development.
Consider job shadowing.
Do informational interviews.
Get pre-professional advisement if you plan to attend a professional school for medicine, physical therapy, etc.
To change or not to change…that is the question.

Decision >>>
Now that you have a sounder understanding about your academic and professional plans, make an appointment with the respective academic advisor or coordinator in the desired major’s department to clarify what steps are needed to apply to the major.

Submit Change of Major Web
Form.
If accepted, you will receive confirmation via email from the respective department.
If not accepted, consider other options (Plan B).
