NY SAF Summer Meeting New York SAF Summer Meeting The Diversity of Forests in Western New York August 19-21, 2002 Buffalo and Erie County, NY Sponsored by— New York Society of American Foresters In cooperation with SUNY ESF Continuing Education The 2002 Summer Meeting of the New York Society of American Foresters is set for western New York. The meeting features visits and discussion on three important parts of forestry in Erie County with innovative and unique situations: urban forestry, county lands, wood processing. On Monday afternoon we will meet at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and tour some of the urban parks in Buffalo with Andy Rabb, City Forester. Tuesday we will visit the Erie County Forests in southern Erie County with Brian Grassia, County Forester. The county is starting to develop a comprehensive management plan and has asked for advice from NYSAF. The day will end with a discussion on what the NYSAF members think would be useful management directions, activities, and planning process for the county to consider. Wednesday morning following a business meeting and update on the upcoming national convention in Buffalo for Fall 2003, we will visit the CanFibre plant in Lackawanna. This is a unique facility that manufactures MDF (medium density fiberboard) currently from recycled wood and sawmill residues. They are considering adding chips to their mix and appreciate the opportunity for input from NYSAF.
