Remediation of contaminated sites using willow plantings, controlled burns in different forest types, timber stand
improvement to facilitate troop movements, salvaging ice storm damaged timber, the largest open field bird habitat in
single ownership, scotch pine erosion control plantings: Fort Drum has all of this and will be features during the
summer NYSAF meeting.
The meeting will also include opportunity to apply different ownership objectives to a parcel of land and compare
management strategies.
Fort Drum is quite different from what you see by simply driving along Route 3. For those who may have been there
in the Army Reserve or Guard decades ago, there have been major environmental changes. (We may even be able to
see a live artillery fire demonstration.)
Continuing Forestry Education Credit:
SAF Certified Forester Credits: This meeting has been approved
for 2 Category I Continuing Forestry Education credits.
Meeting Location: Fort Drum and Watertown, NY. Sessions start each day at Building T4839.
Lodging: Participants must make their own room reservations. Blocks of rooms in Watertown are reserved at the
Ramada Inn, (315)788-0700, at $70 per night, and at the Days Inn (315)785-9877 at $55 per night. Rooms may also
be available at the Econolodge at $40 per night. All three motels are located at Exit 45--Arsenal St., from I-81. The
Ramada Inn is one block west on Arsenal St. The Days Inn and EconoLodge are approximately 1/2 mile east on
Arsenal St.

Take I-81 north, past Watertown, to exit 48. Turn right onto Rte. 342. Take Rte. 342 to the second traffic light,
adjacent to McDonalds and the Microtel. Turn left onto Rte. 11. Take Rte. 11 to the second traffic light at the junction
of Rte. 26 (just outside Evans Mills). Turn right unto Rte. 26. At the second traffic light turn right onto Oneida Ave.
Take the second right onto George Ave. Go across the railroad tracks and past the "Light Fighters" sand pit. Take a
right on Netherly St. Go one block and turn left unto Delahanty Ave. The SAF Meeting will be held inside the last
building on the left (Building T-4839).

To Register: Please preregister! Simply fill out and mail the registration form with your meeting fee. To tentatively
reserve a space, call ESF Continuing Education at (315) 470-6891; or FAX (315) 470-6890.

and payment must be received by August 8, 2001. (We have to make catering
guarantees.)

$65 includes Lunch & dinner 8/15 & breaks
$45 without dinner on 8/15
Refunds:
Participants who wish to withdraw from this program must give written notice by August 8 to receive a full
refund. A $45 cancellation fee will be retained after that, however, no refunds will be granted if notice is received the
day of the meeting or after. Substitutions are permissible at any time. SUNY ESF reserves the right to cancel this
program in the event of insufficient registrations; full refunds will be made in such a case.
