NY SAF Summer Meeting New York SAF Summer Meeting Forest Management with Unique Management Objectives: The Case of Fort Drum August 15-16, 2001 Fort Drum and Watertown, NY Sponsored by— New York Society of American Foresters In cooperation with SUNY ESF Continuing Education Remediation of contaminated sites using willow plantings, controlled burns in different forest types, timber stand improvement to facilitate troop movements, salvaging ice storm damaged timber, the largest open field bird habitat in single ownership, scotch pine erosion control plantings: Fort Drum has all of this and will be features during the summer NYSAF meeting. The meeting will also include opportunity to apply different ownership objectives to a parcel of land and compare management strategies. Fort Drum is quite different from what you see by simply driving along Route 3. For those who may have been there in the Army Reserve or Guard decades ago, there have been major environmental changes. (We may even be able to see a live artillery fire demonstration.) Continuing Forestry Education Credit: SAF Certified Forester Credits: This meeting has been approved for 2 Category I Continuing Forestry Education credits. Meeting Location: Fort Drum and Watertown, NY. Sessions start each day at Building T4839. Lodging: Participants must make their own room reservations. Blocks of rooms in Watertown are reserved at the Ramada Inn, (315)788-0700, at $70 per night, and at the Days Inn (315)785-9877 at $55 per night. Rooms may also be available at the Econolodge at $40 per night. All three motels are located at Exit 45--Arsenal St., from I-81.
