Candidates assist students in completing homework, reinforce newly learned skills, review previously learned content and skills, and/or provide enrichment activities. ELED 371 (Field Work in Elementary Education, II): Candidates assist an elementary/middle school classroom teacher and work with individual or small groups of children. ELED 470 (Senior Field Work/Seminar in Elementary Education): Candidates spend half days in an area classroom teaching at least 30 lessons across the subject areas (reading/language arts, science, social studies, and math) during a twelve-week period of time. STUDENT TEACHING Candidates completing the elementary education program participate in a 12 week student teaching experience. Candidates also enroll in ELED 410 (Senior Seminar in Elementary Education) this semester. In ELED 410, candidates correspond with a department faculty member via email as they complete an “Improving Practice” project and the Western Teacher Work Sample.
