Celebrate Our Accomplishments
Winds of Leadership will find projects in Harford
County and assemble the leaders necessary
to accomplish them, thus leaving behind an
improved county and a legacy of leadership.
Through fundraisers and member donations,
Winds of Leadership donated over $25,000 to
fund the restoration of the 70 foot mast of the
skipjack Martha Lewis, located at Hutchins Park in
Havre de Grace, MD.

Winds of Leadership is a nonprofit organization
committed to applying the force of united
leadership to achieve tasks that leave a legacy.
As a sail catches the force of wind for speed and
direction, so the Winds of Leadership will be a
force of leadership that fills the sails of Harford
County through support of worthy projects.
Martha Lewis is one of the few remaining working
dredge boats that make up the Chesapeake
Bay oyster fleet—the last to fish commercially,
under sail, in the United States of America. The
vessel provides a valuable glimpse of our unique
Bay heritage and functions as a classroom for
estuarine studies and environmental exploration.

Help Us Promote Leadership
The first step in the path toward leadership
is inspiration. The next is involvement. For
years, Harford Leadership Academy has been
encouraging leaders to play an active role in
Harford County. To inspire future leaders, Winds
of Leadership has committed to raising funds to
erect a monument to leadership on the grounds of
Harford Community College.
This monument will serve as a permanent symbol
of the power of leadership in an effort to:
• Influence people—from known leaders to
students—to unite as leaders in support
of Harford County
• Serve as a reminder of the impact and
value of leadership efforts
• Recognize the contributions of Harford
Leadership Academy graduates
What can you do? In a word, UNITE. Unite to
finish the monument, to find the next project, and
to leave a legacy of leadership visible by all we
accomplish.

Join Winds of Leadership
Winds of Leadership (WINDS) is the 501(c)
(3) philanthropic arm of Harford Leadership
Academy (HLA). We are an open group of leaders
committed to improving Harford County and
leaving a legacy of leadership. Currently, all of
the members are Harford Leadership Academy
graduates, but graduation from HLA is not
required to participate. There are no dues and
no membership requirements. Meetings are held
monthly.
