The Tech Team is happy to announce its newest members: Amanda Littleton, Hannah Bauersfeld, Jencen Smith, Sarah Krzak, and Zoe Edwards. Upcoming Chalk and Wire Info Sessions Throughout the next couple of weeks the Tech Team will be hosting a series of Chalk and Wire informational sessions for the students enrolled in Educational Psychology. The sessions will take place on January 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 28th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the computer lab in VanZoeren. Tech Team members must arrive at 6:45 p.m. to prepare. New Tech Team members are more than welcome to attend a session in order to get a sense of what the sessions are like. Members are scheduled to lead or assist as follows: Tuesday, January 22nd Wednesday, January 23rd Thursday, January 24th Monday, January 28th Tuesday, January 29th Amelia or Kyle leading; Ashley and Kate assisting Amelia or Kyle leading; Alex and Abby assisting Amelia or Kyle leading; Rachel and Krystal assisting Kate leading; Sam and Abby assisting Kate and Alex leading The Chalk and Wire session on Tuesday, January 29th was newly added at the meeting as a “make-up session” for those students who are not able to (or forget to) attend one of the other four meetings. Alex and Kate volunteered to lead that session, which will take place in the Granberg Room of the library, not in the computer lab like the other sessions. If a student tells you that s/he is not able to attend one of the four regular sessions, s/he MUST email Susan about the scheduling conflict. Chalk and Wire Info Sessions – Preparing for Potential Problems Amelia mentioned a few problems that have come up in previous sessions (as noted in the 2012 Tech Team Summary). Problems included students incorrectly naming their portfolios and/or incorrectly selecting a table of contents, students not purchasing their Chalk and Wire subscriptions, students encountering issues when uploading pictures to their portfolios on Macs, and students moving ahead during the presentation and missing key points. All Tech Team members, whether leading or assisting, should try and prevent these problems from occurring during their session(s). Student Teaching Portfolio Presentation On Monday, January 28th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in VanderWerf 102 (the auditorium), Amelia and Kyle will be presenting a PowerPoint presentation to all current student teachers about the process of creating a student teaching portfolio. All other Tech Team members were welcome to sit in on the presentation as well. Attendance to the presentation is particularly important for individuals who would like to consider being a co-director next year, for it is the co-directors who give the presentation each semester. Meetings with Hamilton and Saugatuck Public Schools Various Tech Team members have met with representatives from Hamilton Public Schools and Saugatuck Public Schools in order to discuss the possibility of collaboration between the Tech Team and each school district. Ashley summarized the meeting that was held with the Hamilton leadership, and Sarah summarized the meeting that was held with the Saugatuck leadership. Further information about each of the meetings can be found in the Meeting Minutes dated January 2nd (meeting with Hamilton) and January 14th (meeting with Saugatuck). iPad Assistance for Hamilton Schools At the request of some of the teachers from Hamilton, Kate and Sarah went through a list of 98 iPad educational apps they were given and organized them into a Google Doc by price and other characteristics so that the teachers can then go through the list and identify apps for the Tech Team to investigate and assess for potential benefits and/or concerns. After deciding on the apps that the teachers would like to use in their classrooms (they have library sets of iPads that they can check out), the Tech Team would instruct them on proper usage of the apps. Kate told the team that anyone who is interested in helping with this project – whether by directly assisting in the aforementioned or by simply emailing her apps to look into and/or stay clear of – is encouraged to do so. New Co-Directors Any veteran Tech Team members interested in serving as a co-director for the 2013-2014 school year should email Susan, Kyle, and Amelia, stating (1) that they are interested in the position, and (2) why they believe they would be a suitable candidate for the job. Kyle and Amelia will then inform us of the process they will use in selecting the co-directors. Tech Team Website Modifications The Tech Team Toolkit website has been modified (modifications include added and deleted content and formatting changes due to a switch in the website host). The Tech Team’s mission statement (which is on the home page of the new website) has also been updated. At the meeting, we finalized revision and editing of the mission statement. To see the new website, go to http://hope.edu/academic/education/techtoolkit/index.htm. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m. The next general Tech Team meeting will take place within the next few weeks. The exact date and time of the meeting is yet to be determined. This concludes our meeting. Respectfully submitted, Ashley Blauwkamp, clerk
