Apps of the Month and other Useful Bits of Technology
Happy February Everyone!
Welcome to another semester, and for many, welcome to our last semester! This month’s selection focuses on
apps for the OB, Peds, and EKG classes. To make up for missing Tech Talk last month, I’ve brought a bigger
selection for this month’s issue.
Pedi STAT: This app is interesting and has lot of detailed information of pediatric medications, as well as information for emergency situations.
- $ 7.99 for Android / $2.99 for iPhone
Pedi Safe Medications: This app specifically focuses on pediatric medications, as well as safe administration
methods.
- $ 4.99 for Android / $1.99 for iPhone / $2.99 for iPad
Obstetrics (+ Pregnancy Wheel): This app has useful information that could be useful in your assessments, as
well as general information about fetal development.
- $ 1.99 for Android
Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing Manual: This app has a lot of detailed information about the physiological
changes that occur during pregnancy, both to the mother and to the fetus. It also has useful information for
assessment, and information about nursing care for both mother and baby.
- FREE for iPhone (In-app purchases available)
Easy ECG: This easy to use, simple EKG app is useful for practicing recognizing different rhythms and interpreting different characteristics, and written by physicians, specifically for students to study!
- $ 1.99 for Android
Instant ECG: An Electrocardiogram Rhythms Interpretation Guide: This app contains clips of the most common
arrhythmias, has high resolution examples of 12 lead ECG’s, and contains over 140 practice questions useful
for studying for the ACLS certification. Also great as a study tool for the EKG course.
- On sale for $ 0.99 for a limited time for iPhone
Useful (and Fun) Websites
https://www.facebook.com/NCLEXMastery : I highly recommend liking this page on Facebook.
They post an NCLEX question daily, covering many different topics, and it also allows you to network with other studying
students. They also have an app, which I highly recommend and have featured before in a previous issue. It is available for
both Android and iPhone.
http://www.pinterest.com : If you haven’t already, I’d recommend Pinterest to everyone, not only
as a great way to de-stress and kill time (but not procrastinate...), but also as a great way to corral useful nursing tips. The
internet is full of magical things my friends! Seek and ye shall find. https://www.pinterest.com/nursegroups/ • https://
www.pinterest.com/nurselippincott/
http://scrubsmag.com/Scrubsmag : is a magazine written for nurses, by nurses, and features
articles covering everything from school to fashion advice. There are serious career advice
articles, and articles to make you laugh if you’re just having a particularly crummy day. It’s
always worth a good read, because no one understands a nurse better than another nurse.
