Volunteer Opportunities
5210 Manitou Springs Health Fair
Seven Beth-El nursing students volunteered for
the El Paso County Health Department at the
9Health Fair held in Manitou Springs. The Booth
that the ladies worked was the 5210 Let’s Go
Childhood Obesity Prevention Program. The
Manitou Firefighters, who were doing blood
pressure screening, received a call while at the
fair and had to race to the call. The organizers of
the fair propositioned the nursing students to take
blood pressures while the firefighters were off
fighting a fire.
Nutrition Club Health Fair
March was National Nutrition Month and the Nutrition Club hosted a health fair on main campus. BethEl student nurses participated in the fair and assisted with blood pressure screenings. Most students’ BP
fell within the normal or pre-hypertensive range (probably due to stress of midterms). Education was
given to students about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle this included diet and exercise.
Volunteer
Opportunities
This year the Nursing
department is working hand-inhand with the Health Science
department and the Lane Center
to raise awareness and money for
heart and stroke research.
The heart walk will be here on
campus. It is free to sign-up, but
donations and fundraising is
welcomed. In order to fundraise,
participants need to create their
own page on the AHA Heart
Walk website
(www.csheartwalk.org).
Registering online is simple and
takes about 5 minutes, but they
need to Join the Beth-el Nursing
team-- during the registration
process click on 'Join a Team'
then type in "Beth-el" and
choose the Beth-el Nursing team.
Participants need to raise a
minimum of $25 to receive a
personalized Beth-El/Heath
Sciences/Lane Center team shirt.
Last year nursing students and instructors had the privilege of
working in the VIP room during the 4 days of Rodeo. This
year we have been invited back. The BSNA is looking for
approximately 30 volunteers for this year’s event.
The year’s dates are July 8th – 11th(Wednesday - Saturday)
There are four shifts and shift hours are 5pm – 10 pm.
Volunteers will be working in the VIP room (2nd floor of the
Norris Penrose Event Center, overlooking the arena) replacing
food on the buffet line, refilling water, and clearing plates.
Volunteers are fed dinner and are encouraged to enjoy the live
music, dancing, and mechanical bull riding in the “Circle”
after the Rodeo. The best perk of volunteering is you’ll
receive a custom designed Beth-El/Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo
t-shirt for your participation
Commitments are needed by May 4th. Please contact Nicole
Noblitt at nnoblitt@uccs.edu to sign up.
Careers
Career Fair Update
For the career fair: Thank you to all of the students who participated in the career fair this
year! We had 21 organizations come, and some students were even able to set up interviews
for CNA and nursing jobs. Well done and see you next year!
NSNA Convention
NSNA 2015 Convention
The NSNA Convention was a BLAST!
Those who went got to meet with many
other nursing students from all over the
country and some very important people in
the nursing profession. It was a great way
to network with people all over the country
and have connections for after graduation.
There was also a career center that helped
with resumes, professional outfits, and a
professional photos. Next year the
convention will be in Orlando so if you are
interested start planning!
Fun Happenings
There have been some changes. Carmike Cinema will not be showing American Nurse.
Fortunately, Mary Satre was able to get a copy of the film for us and will be showing it for free
at the Rampart Range Campus of Pikes Peak Campus. If you would like to attend the showing, it
will be on May 7th at 5pm in Rm W101. It is a bring your own snacks party. Not only is this a
wonderful opportunity to still see the film, but now we can also meet and mingle with some of
our fellow nursing students and potentially, future co-workers!

Every year national nurses week begins on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence
Nightingales' birthday. This is a special week when nurses can be celebrated and
thanked for all the special things they do to care for others. Please take the time during
this week to thank that special nurse mentor, instructor or student who has made an
impact on your life of the life of a loved one.

accurately. Could be a valuable study tool!

ECG Guide – This app shows real examples of ECGs for different conditions, and
allows you to see what it would look like in real time. Also has the potential to be a
great study tool!

Heart Sounds (+ Lung Sounds) – This app is fantastic as it not only has examples
