Welcome to the UCCS Rec Kids
Summer 2016 Camp!
Dear Rec Kids Families:
We would like to personally thank each of you for your participation and loyalty to the Rec Kids
Camp program! Our continued success is all thanks to our wonderful families. We are
committed to providing your child with a quality, safe, well-rounded recreation experience.
UCCS Rec Kids Camp program offers children a variety of activities each day such as sports,
swimming, arts & crafts, group games, nutrition sessions, super sciences, outdoor learning and
play; assuring you that your child will have fun!
Your child will develop relationships with other campers as well as the counselors, as they
experience and discover the world around them. Both small and large group activities will allow
your child to learn the importance of valuing diversity, being a team player and leading by
example. Each session includes a field trip and special theme which allows your child to grow in
mind and body.

Theme Descriptions
Fitness & Sports
This week we emphasize on staying fit and having fun! Basketball, soccer, and grass volleyball
are just a few of the various sports we will be playing. We will also head down the road to the
Olympic Training Center for a tour of the facility!
Earth & Science
Become a scientist for the week! We will build electric powered rockets, learn how to plant
vegetables at home, and observe the wildlife critters of the Fountain Creek Nature Center.
Creativity Inc.
There are so many ways to be creative, whether it’s building a fort, learning a couple tricks in
the kitchen, or painting with shaving cream. Each camper will get a chance to flex their brain
muscle and create something unique!
Colorado Living
Join us in exploring what our Colorado backyard has to offer! A thrilling week filled with hiking
and exploring local trails such as Palmer Park and Pulpit Rock. Colorado Living is a great
alternative to our Junior Adventurer Program or an introduction to some outdoor activities.
Junior Outdoor Adventurer
This program is an outdoor intensive week full of incredible activities around Colorado. We will
be taking the kids on an all-day guided rafting trip in Bighorn Sheep Canyon. Rock Climbing,
Hiking, and Rappelling are just of few of the other wild things we will be doing! The staff for this
6
camp will be trained guides who will help your children excel and build confidence in the
outdoors.
*This program is tailored towards an older age group of campers due to the intensity and pace
of the activities.

Summer Camp
All balance payments for summer camp are due two (2) weeks prior to the first day of the camp
week. All payments must be received before your child may participate in the program.
Summer Camp Late or Missing Payments
Rec Kids Camp will send reminder emails for outstanding payments leading up to each camp
week. Following the payment due date, families with missing payments may result in the
forfeiture of the reservation. Late payments received will be assessed a $10 fee per child, per

Waitlist Procedures
Summer camp enrollment fills quickly, and unfortunately we will not be able to offer immediate
enrollment after this point. As a result, prospective campers may be placed on the waitlist. Each
session of camp is a separate waitlist. If a camper is placed on a waitlist:
 A deposit or payment is not required at the time.
 The parent of guardian will still need to provide relevant information (Parent
name/email/phone number and camper name/DOB/gender).
 If a spot opens up, the Manager of Camps will contact the family by phone. In order to
be respectful of others on the waitlist, a family will have two business days to make a
decision whether or not to accept the spot.
o Should a parent/guardian be contacted on the Thursday prior to the camp week,
he or she will have until Friday at 4pm to decide.
 If you find other care for the summer, please call us at 719-255-7513 to remove your
camper from the waitlist(s).

Discipline
Rec Kids Camp Staff understands that every camper may have a difficult experience on
occasion. Our goal is to quickly resolve any conflicts and keep your child involved in the
activities. The Rec Kids Camp Staff will adhere to the following guidelines and procedures:
 Step 1: Verbal Warning- The camper will be notified of his or her behavior and given
cues to correct the behavior.
 Step 2: Time-out- The camper will sit out of an activity for a predetermined amount of
time. Following the time-out, the staff member will address the situation with the child,
give him or her cues on how to correct the behavior, and communicate further
consequences should the child continue the behavior.
11



Step 3: Trip to the Camp Office- The staff member and camper will meet with camp
administrators to discuss the camper’s behavior and future consequences. The staff will
complete a discipline form that will be given to a parent upon pick up.
Step 4: Camper/Parent/Staff Meeting- The Coordinator of the program will contact the
parent or guardian of the child to arrange a meeting. The forms of discipline as well as
the behavior associated will be discussed with the child and parent. All parties involved
will try and put together a plan for the camper’s future behavior.
Step 5: Suspension/Expulsion- If behavior persists, the parent will be called to pick-up
the camper. Suspensions will range from the remainder of a day to multiple days or
expulsion.
Rec Kids Camp reserves the right to skip any of these steps depending on the severity of
the situation.

Camper Checklist
Campers must bring the following every day:
 Swim suit and towel
 Two snacks (morning and afternoon)
 Lunch: full-day campers
 Athletic clothing
 Athletic, closed toe shoes
 Backpack with extra clothing
Clothing and Shoes
Children should come to camp prepared for a full day of activity. For each day, children should
have comfortable athletic shoes, and appropriate clothing for physical activity. A spare change
of clothes is also recommended for after swim time.
Lunch and Snacks
Parents must provide lunch and two snacks every day. We will make sure that your child is
staying hydrated by taking plenty of water breaks throughout the day. A water bottle is highly
recommended. There are plenty of water fountains around the facility to refill bottles throughout
the day.
Sun Protection
We suggest that you pack sunscreen for your child, due to the fact that many children are
sensitive to certain brands and formulas. We will have plenty of sunscreen on site to make sure
everybody is getting the sufficient protection.
