MASTER’S PROGRAMME IN SOCIAL WORK
The Master’s programme in Social Work, Mizoram University began in 2002. Since 2012, the
department offered a generic programme of 88 Credits under the Choice Based Credit System
(CBCS) with Continuous Assessment and Grading Pattern (CAGP). From 2015 the department
offers MSW programme under CBCS with specialisations in Community Development and Family
Welfare. The MSW programme aims at importing values, knowledge and skills for working with
people at multilevel in the major fields of professional social work.
Eligibility:
A three years Bachelor Degree (Honours) in Arts, Science, Social Sciences and Humanities.
Or
A threeyears Non-Honours Bachelor Degree in Arts, Science, Social Sciences and Humanities with
a minimum 63% marks.
Intake Capacity: Number of Seats : 30 (Thirty)
MSW Admission Procedure, 2015
Admission to MSW programme will be based on both the percentage of marks scored in the undergraduation (50% weightage) and marks secured in the admission test (50% weightage). The MSW
admission test will comprise of three components viz., written test, group discussion and personal interview
as per the details below.Attendance in each of the component of the Admission test (I-III) is mandatory to
secure admission.

M.Phil (Social Work) Admissions 2015
The Department of Social Work has been offering M.Phil (Social Work) since August 2009. The
course intends to offer a higher level of understanding in social work as compared to what is offered at post
graduate level. The course is designed to provide opportunities to strengthen the knowledge, practice and
research skill bases of the scholars.
Eligibility for Admission
1. MSW or MA (Social Work) from a university or institution recognised by the UGC.
2. A minimum of 55% of marks in PG (Relaxation of up to 5% for SC/ST candidates).
M. Phil Admission Test 2015
The admission to M.Phil programmes will be based on the candidates’ PG Marks and score secured
in admission test (equal weightage is provided to both components). All eligible candidates are required to
appear for an admission test.
The M.Phil (SW) admission test aims at testing the candidate’s social work research aptitude in terms
of knowledge of research methods and skills in formulation of research problem, research design, data
analysis and interpretation. The M.Phil admission test will have three components viz., written test,
presentation of research proposal, and personal interview as per details below:

Ph.D (Social Work) Admission 2015
The Department of Social Work has been offeringPh.D (Social Work) since August 2006. The course
intends to offer a higher level of understanding in social work as compared to what is offered at post graduate
level. The course is designed to provide opportunities to strengthen the knowledge, practice and research
skill bases of the scholars.

4. A minimum of 55% of marks in PG (Relaxation of up to 5% for SC/ST candidates).
The admission to Ph.D programmes will be based on the candidates’ PG Marks and score secured in
admission test (equal weightage is provided to both components). All eligible candidates are required to
appear for an admission test. A weightage of 20% will be given to the candidates who have been successfully
completed M.Phil degree while 10% weightage will be given to ones who have just submitted their dissertation
and secured First classor more in the M.Phil course work.
Ph.DAdmission Test 2015
The Ph.D (SW) admission test aims at testing the candidate’s social work research aptitude in terms of
knowledge of research methods and skills in formulation of research problem, design, data analysis and
