WOMEN’S RESOURCE DIRECTORY
Art and Culture
1. ArtWomen http://www.artwomen.org/
Description: We hope that this website will be a place for you to find visual art and
feminist cultural production across and between disciplines and geographical boundaries.
ArtWomen.org began with two friends talking via e-mail, a feminist curator in Texas and
a feminist art historian in Washington, D.C. We decided to use the Internet to bring
artwomen together on line to talk about issues of current interest. We were then
organizing a roundtable for the 2000 National Women's Studies Association annual
meeting, and the Internet was a convenient alternative to meetings that must be attended
in person. Since that beginning we have added a lot to ArtWomen.

6. Guerrilla Girls http://www.guerillagirls.com/
Description: We’re feminist masked avengers in the tradition of anonymous do-gooders
like Robin Hood, Wonder Woman and Batman. How do we expose sexism, racism and
corruption in politics, art, film and pop culture? With facts, humor and outrageous
visuals. We reveal the understory, the subtext, the overlooked, the and the downright
unfair. What have we done for you lately? Click above. Our work has been passed around
the world by our tireless supporters. In the last few years, we’ve appeared at over 90
universities and museums, as well as in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The
New Yorker, Bitch, and Artforum; on NPR, the BBC and CBC; and in many art and
feminist texts. We are authors of stickers, billboards, many, many posters and other
projects, and several books including The Guerrilla Girls' Bedside Companion to the
History of Western Art and Bitches, Bimbos and Ballbreakers: The Guerrilla Girls' Guide
to Female Stereotypes. We’re part of Amnesty International’s Stop Violence Against
Women Campaign in the UK; we're brainstorming with Greenpeace.

our traditions of music, art, conversation, controversy and community. Our cultural
