GRP Series Housings Technical Information
Description
GRP Series housings are manufactured with polyester
resins which provide superior chemical resistance to a
wide range of fluids, especially acids, alkalis, seawater,
and brackish water. Special design and construction
consideration ensures that the GRP housings are resistant
to ultraviolet light and highly corrosive environments.
The fiberglass housings come in vertical and horizontal
configurations to meet customers’ space requirements.
The vessels are designed to house a variety of filters,
giving customers the ability to select the type of media
and removal rating for their specific seawater or brackish
water application. Pall’s RO guard filters are available in
melt-blown depth or pleated configurations and offer
high dirt-holding capacities, low differential pressures,
low energy consumption, and long on-stream life. Pall’s
RO guard filters are designed to reduce the overall
filtration costs at desalination plants by providing reliable,
high-performance filtration that requires fewer element
change-outs than conventional filters.

GRP Modular Racks
Description
GRP modular racks are standard racks consisting of six
GRP modular housings that accommodate Ultipleat High
Flow filters or Nexis High Flow filters – 152.4 mm (6 in)
diameter x 1524 mm (60 in) length. The RO guard filters
and GRP modular racks provide cost-effective RO guard
filtration and long-term corrosion resistance performance
in SWRO desalination plants.
The robust GRP modular racks and high-flow cartridge
filters offer a cost-effective alternative to CSRL or steel
equivalents by reducing capital costs up to 50%. The
free-standing, compact design of the GRP modular
racks saves floor space, lowers capital and labor costs,
and offers quick cartridge change-outs.

Element Options
Pall offers a variety of polypropylene melt-blown depth
filters and high-flow pleated filters for treating seawater
and brackish water. Each filter is designed for particulate
contamination removal in high-volume, high-flow
applications. Some of the many benefits include:
• Enhanced corrosion resistance of the GRP materials
• Minimized floor space requirement
• Easy and quick cartridge change-outs
• Lower capital costs
• Longer life and lower maintenance costs
• Consistent, repeatable performance
• Substantially reduced vessel clean-up time
• Energy efficiency due to high dirt-holding capacity
and lower delta P’s
A brief description of each type of filter can be found
below.
Claris Filters
Claris filters feature highly consistent, polypropylene melt
blown media with a graded pore structure that enhances
dirt-holding capacity. Claris filters are free of surfactants,
binders and adhesives. An extruded fibrous core (E-core)
provides excellent strength and allows easy and safe
cartridge incineration and disposal.
Claris filters are available with a DOE option for existing
housings and come in two lengths – 1016 mm (40 in)
and 1270 mm (50 in). Additionally, plastic and metal
spring assembly end configurations are available.
8
Claris filters offer the lowest element capital expenditure
of the group of elements and are available in bulk
packaging. These filters are used in vertical GRP housing
configurations.
Claris filters are designed to meet EPC specifications.
Options are available that are certified by NSF International
under ANSI/NSF Standard 42 and 61 for materials only.
For more information regarding the certification, please
contact Pall.
For more information, see data sheet WPCLRDESALEN.
Marksman High Flow Filters
Marksman High Flow filters are high-capacity, high-flow polypropylene
filters. Marksman High Flow filters feature a 152.4 mm (6 in) large cartridge
pleated geometry and are available in 508 mm (20 in), 1016 mm (40 in),
and 1524 mm (60 in) lengths. These filters use Pall’s proprietary
Poly-Fine® II media or Poly-Fine Extended Life Depth (XLD) media for
highly consistent filtration.
Marksman High Flow filters have an inside-to-out flow that traps
contaminants inside the element. Marksman High Flow filters are available
in a variety of grades to meet specific application requirements. These
filters are used in both vertical and horizontal GRP housing configurations.
For more information, see data sheet WPMHFDESALEN.
Nexis High Flow Filters
Nexis High Flow filters are large-diameter, coreless, single-open-ended
depth filters. Nexis High Flow filters are manufactured using highly
automated equipment and proprietary CoLD Melt™ technology for
increased product consistency. Inside-to-outside flow traps contaminants
inside the filter, preventing discharge during change-outs.
With its large diameter, desired results can be achieved in high flow
rate applications using significantly fewer elements and smaller housings.
Nexis High Flow filters are an excellent choice when upgrading a housing.
The large scale format enables easy change-outs. These filters are used
in horizontal GRP housing configurations and GRP modular racks.
For more information, see data sheet WPNHFDESALEN.
Ultipleat High Flow Filters
Ultipleat High Flow filters are coreless, single-open-ended, pleated filters
with an inside-to-outside flow pattern. The filter's unique crescentshaped, pleated geometry combined with its large 152.4 mm (6 in)
diameter and proprietary media delivers great performance, while using
considerably fewer elements and smaller housings.
Ultipleat High Flow filters are well-suited for small to large desalination
and brackish water treatment applications where high flow rates and
high contamination ingression rates are present. Ultipleat High Flow
filters provide reproducible and consistent removal efficiencies. Ultipleat
High Flow filters are available in 1016 mm (40 in), 1524 mm (60 in), and
2032 mm (80 in) lengths and a range of removal ratings. These filters
are used in both vertical and horizontal GRP vessels as well as GRP
modular racks.
For more information, see data sheet WPUHFDESALEN.

aqueous pressure drop. Note: for fluids other than water, multiply this value by the fluid’s viscosity at the operating
temperature in centipoise. This value is the pressure drop across the filter(s). It must be added to the pressure
drop of the housing to determine the overall system pressure drop. For kPa/lpm, multiply mbard/lpm by 0.1000.

multiply this value by the fluid’s viscosity at the operating temperature in centipoise. This value is the pressure drop
across the Ultipleat High Flow filter(s) only; it must be added to the pressure drop contribution from the filter housing.
13 The test procedure used is an adaptation of ISO 4572, modified to determine the micron size above which
particles are quantitatively removed.
14 Precise evaluation of the 99.98% removal efficiency for these coarse grades is not possible with the ISO modified test
procedure utilized. The removal efficiency was determined by the maximum spherical particle analysis.
