Principal Investigator
2013 – present
Wrote and obtained funding for a grant, “Evaluating Medicaid Costs and Outcomes,” which examines
retrospective data from 2006-2012 in phase one and then examines prospectively from 2013-2018
projected costs and outcomes under the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion. This involves
extensive data analysis of patient utilization and costs as well as assessments of access and health
outcomes (morbidity and mortality rates by disease). The study pays particular attention to managed
care versus fee-for-service in terms of costs, access and outcomes.
The findings from this study are being delivered to the Michigan State legislature to help gauge past
Medicaid expenditures and outcomes as well as future liability (or savings) under the Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act.
