U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez Recognizes Syracuse and Central
New York Partnerships
Secretary Perez announced yesterday the Ready to Work
Partnership grant competition that will support and scale
innovative
partnerships
between
employers,
nonprofit
organizations and America's public workforce system to build a
pipeline of talented U.S. workers and help those experiencing
long-term unemployment.
Secretary Perez made the grant announcement from the Pulaski,
N.Y., headquarters of the Fulton Companies, a global
manufacturer of industrial and commercial heating systems.
Thanks in part to federal funding from the multi-agency Advanced
Secretary Perez (Left) at Fulton
Manufacturing Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge, Fulton
Companies with Bram Palm, CEO (Right)
developed strong training partnerships with the State University
of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), the
Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY), and the Syracuse Center of
Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (SyracuseCoE). Together, they are able to
develop the local workforce Fulton needs to expand their Pulaski plant’s manufacturing capacity in
order to better serve the North American and international markets.
Secretary Perez toured the Fulton Companies plant and learned how training provided by SUNYESF and MACNY through SyracuseCoE’s AM-TEC program has benefited 38 employees to date. He
also toured the SyracuseCoE where he met with executives from Ephesus Lighting, ICM Controls,
and NuClimate Air Quality Systems. Rob Simpson, CenterState CEO Executive Director, moderated
a roundtable that included Central New York business and educational leaders and yielded valuable
insights into national priorities and opportunities for regional initiatives.

Radiation Curing Program | RCP
SUNY-ESF, along with RadTech International North America, MACNY, and other collaborators
has launched a new program in radiation or energy curing.
RCP prepares practicing professionals along with upper-level undergraduate and graduate
students in the science and technology of energy curing such as ultraviolet (UV) or electron
beam (EB) processing.
UV and EB curing refers to a special way in which coatings, inks, adhesives, composites and
other materials may be cured as an alternative to traditional energy-intensive methods that
create harmful emissions. In short, these processes entail ultraviolet energy from a UV lamp
and the focused electrons in EB to instantly cure/crosslink specially formulated chemistries,
using less energy and at lower cost than conventional/incumbent methods. To learn more and


Advanced Manufacturing – Thermal and Environmental Controls | AM-TEC
Thermal and Environmental Controls (TEC) is a specialty sector within the advanced
manufacturing industries experiencing a significant skill and knowledge gap among domestic
workers that will widen if left unchecked. An integrated training program led by SUNY-ESF and
MACNY provides participants with the training that prepares participants for potential
employment, and adds value and advancement potential to incumbent workers in the advanced
manufacturing of TEC.

Foundational Competencies Training / Two days. No cost to attend; open to the public.

Certified Production Technician / Self paced online instruction with facilitated orientation.
Open to the public.

TEC Topics /Regularly scheduled tours featuring local TEC firms’ products and processes,
seminars and discussions on TEC topics of interest. No cost to attend; open to the public.
