Transformers for harsh environments The Siemens transformer portfolio for the oil and gas industry Siemens Transformers talks oil and gas The oil and gas industry is one of the most important and most vital sectors that Siemens works with. Siemens offers a wide range of products and services for this critical backbone of today’s energy supply. Longterm relationships between Siemens and this industry have led to numerous successful projects and references. But behind the obvious needs of the industry – like drilling, compression, and pumping products – it is transformers that keep the systems running. The scope of applications is just as broad as the range of locations where transformers are needed: Special circumstances call for special transformers The oil and gas industry has to deal with a variety of obstacles in diverse locations every day. The transformer should not be a component that demands attention, and so Siemens takes this burden off of its customers’ shoulders. We know that the cost of ownership needs to be at the lowest possible level when it comes to transformers – whether it’s low losses and efficiency, low maintenance and service costs, or the potential risk of outages. We ensure our customers’ peace of mind by building transformers that are safe Drilling reliable Production and processing (on- and offshore) efficient designed for the lowest possible losses to minimize heat development Refining In addition, all transformers for this industry need to adhere to the ATEX guideline on explosion prevention and protection. as small and lightweight as possible maintenance-free or with low maintenance needs siemens.com/energy/transformers Transformers for every oil and gas application Transformers for every environment On- or offshore, in deserts, at sea, or sub-sea – the environments where oil and gas equipment is deployed are both harsh and diverse. That’s why we build transformers to withstand extremely high as well as very low temperatures. Whether it’s sand, wind, salt, or ice – the corrosion protection and stainless steel used by Siemens E T TR will reliably protect your transformers. Siemens cast-resin transformers GEAFOL are entirely oil-free. They can be used in very humid or dirty environments with no negative effects on their efficiency or lifetime. Fire safety and environmental care While the global track record of our transformers is quite impressive, we’d prefer that our products had no ecological impact whatsoever. Especially for fragile environments like the sea or nature reserves, we design and build transformers that are explosion-safe and reduce fire risks. The usage of alternative insulating fluids like MIDEL or cast-resin transformers reduces those risks to a minimum. All of our transformers for the oil and gas industries follow the ATEX guidelines and adhere to all local norms (IEC, ANSI/IEEE). Transformer portfolio for oil and gas Siemens offers a broad variety of transformers for the oil and gas industry. Distribution transformers can be manufactured as either liquid-immersed (with conservator or hermetically sealed) or dry-type. Special transformers for drives, pumps, and compressors complete our port folio. For particular customers and within frame agreements, it is also possible to design a custom transformer for a specific application or environment. For example, Siemens Transformers created a special transformer for wind turbines where a robust coating and extra-small dimensions were combined in a highly efficient product.
