Together, Making A Difference…..One Student At A Time

From The Principal’s Desk

It is amazing what a difference the sunshine and a few extra degrees of temperature can make in one’s outlook and energy level! It is also glorious to finally see everything green and growing. The next 8 weeks of school promise to be very eventful ones, with trips, projects and activities occurring around the school in every class and grade. We look forward to all of them! will be working on lists in June and will do the very best for your child in placing them where they feel is most beneficial.

Happy Spring!

Sincerely,

L. Lacey,

Principal

With the change in season children like to wear cooler footwear such as sandals and crocs. Should your child make such choices, please ensure that they also have footwear at school which offers proper support for running and physical activity, so that we can avoid turned ankles, trips and scrapes.

Spring is also the time when many children wish to ride their bikes to school. This is just a reminder that because of school board insurance and safety requirments, bicycles are the only kind of wheeled vehicles permitted on school grounds. Skateboards, scooters, in-line skates and other kinds of wheeled shoes need to stay at home. Your support in reinforcing bike safety expectations with your child will be appreciated, specifically:

Need labels? Summer camp season is around the corner! Get your students’ stuff labelled and help your school at the same time. Two great fundraisers to choose from:

Elora Labels…we are thrilled to offer a fundraising opportunity with a local label company, Elora Labels, again this year. They have fun designs, offer allergy labels which are a great idea for kids or adults. A portion of all purchases is returned to James

McQueen Parent Council. It’s a win-win situation.

You support a local business, get great affordable labels and help support your school! https://eloralabel.com/jamesmcquen

Mabel’s Labels…are you a die-hard Mabel’s Labels supporter? Don’t fret, we still enjoy a fundraising partnership with them also. Visit http://jmps.mabelslabels.com

The Pause to Play challenge encourages students and their families to put their television, video games and computers on pause for one full week. Participants are more likely to feel good about themselves. Exercise that gets your heart pumping has many benefits to your health!

Being active for at least 60 minutes daily can help children:

• Improve their health

• Do better in school

• Improve their fitness, grow stronger and maintain a healthy body weight

• Have fun playing with friends and feel happier

• Learn new skills and improve their selfconfidence

This May the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Health

Unit is also running the Campaign for a

Commercial Free Childhood encouraging, not just students, but all of us to go screen-free to help our minds detox from this digital world. We will be sending home a letter along with a tracking sheet for this as well. You can record the same cardio exercise

Take the challenge for a week or more and learn how much fun it can be to pause to PLAY!
