Don’t Fall Victim to Phishing Scams
There has been a recent influx of phishing messages reaching our student, faculty, and staff population. Though there are safeguards
in place, we do have the occasional emails that make it through before heuristics identify them as messages needing to be blocked.
Phishing emails tend to persuade you to click on a link to confirm your account information, request you to login to a website, demand
that you supply your personal information, request that you reply to them, or at times provide you with a phone number to call. If you
believe you are a victim of a phishing scam, please change your passwords immediately. If you have any concerns or would like
assistance changing your password please let us know. A work order may be submitted by emailing BHSUhelpdesk@BHSU.edu with
your request.
Please remember to think twice about the validity of emails, Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest posts, phone calls, and pop‐ups you receive
related to, but not limited to the following:
 Incredible, outrageous, amazing, or once‐in‐a‐lifetime deals
 Shopping order status
 Advertisements for popular stores
 Shipment status
 Account change information
 Usernames and password changes and lockouts
 Problems with your bank account
 Changes in billing information
 Backordered items
 Email upgrades and size limits
 Computer viruses/malware
 Threats

Geek Speak!
There will be no Geek Speak next week because of Easter Break, so please join us on March 31 for Dr. Dan May's lecture, "God Show
Me The Way: Religion and Hip Hop." 4:00 p.m., March 31, in Jonas 110.
Hip hop culture has come to occupy a central role in music, both in the United States and around the world. We will briefly outline
the history of hip hop, and then take a closer look at the often‐overlooked intersection of rap music and religion. Drawing on the
culture of traditions such as the Nation of Islam, the Five‐Percent Nation and Christianity, religious imagery and themes have been
used in hip hop lyrics for decades.
We will listen to many examples of this, and also discuss how the incorporation of religion into hip hop is as relevant and vibrant today
as it has ever been. The scholarship of hip hop has also grown to include a focus on the conversation between rap music and religion,
and we will see what prominent scholars have to say about all of this.
