College Heights English Grade 12, College Preparation ENG4E Ms. Angus Course Description: This course emphasizes consolidation of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will analyze informational texts and literary works from various time periods, countries, and cultures; write research reports, summaries, and short analytical essays; complete an independent study project; and analyze the interactions among media forms, audiences, and media industry practices. An important focus will be on establishing appropriate style and using business and technical language effectively. A creative element will also need to be submitted, in which the student will design their own CD. This will include a cover, and full song lyrics. Creative Writing (10%) - upon completion of “Maus”, students will complete a 5 page creative wrting assignment in which they will predict what they think will happen to the characters in the novel. They can choose between a 5 page short story, a 5 page journal, or a 5 page comic. Presentation (10%) students will work in groups of 2-3 preparing a presentation of a film of their choice. They will use their knowledge from the film unit to prepare a detailed 15-20 min. presentation of key cinematic elements within their film. Final Culminating Assignment (15%) Research Paper (10%) - 750 word research paper on a topic of their choice. Examination (15%) - 2-3 hours in total length
