Athena: the X-‐ray observatory to study the Hot and Energe6c Universe Xavier Barcons, IFCA (CSIC-UC), Spain
Framework
Athena is the (only) mission
proposal in response to ESA’s L2
mission call to study the Hot and
Energetic Universe
Mission selection by ESA is
expected late June 2014, followed
by an immediate start of
technology development
programme.
Mission adoption expected by late
2018/early 2019 (B2 onwards).
Launch in 2028.
