Badisa-Strand provides members of the community psycho-social support, parenting and budgeting skills training, budgeting, education on healthy nutrition and is an HIV AIDS information centre. Bell Valley Initiative Bell Valley Initiative identifies orphans and vulnerable children, prioritising child- and granny headed households and children affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS. The organisation also provides capacity building training and addresses the needs of vulnerable families and children in the Helderberg and surrounding farming areas by providing services related to advocacy, research, training support. Sesona Sibane provides workshops on basic counselling and tuberculosis and treatment, raises awareness within communities and offers a gardening programme Sizakuyenza is devoted to improving the health and social environment of the poor in SA, especially those in the informal settlements. Based in Philippi, it aims to reduce the number of HIV-positive infections, prevent gender-based violence, abuse on children, drug and alcohol abuse among youth, as well as develop the full potential of the youth. Sizakuyenza promotes, empowers and support community groups, orphans and vulnerable children and youth groups devoted to their own development through music, drama, sport etc. It acts as a haven for women and their children, to which the police and other safe home can refer abused or seriously threatened women form the communities, a drop-in centre where anyone can find voluntary counselling and testing for HIV (HCT) and a mobile HCT which, with an equipped caravan, visits communities. The group offers services throughout the Metro and provides home visits, raises awareness on HIV AIDS, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and the importance of anti-retroviral medication, encourages male circumstances and conducts outreach programmes to schools, clinics and companies. Living hope seeks to bring hope and break the despair of poverty and disease by offering support to those affected by and / or infected with HIV AIDS and other chronic diseases in the Southern Cape Peninsula. The organisation provides guidance and development through four ministries. (Living Care Living Hope (healthcare ministry); Living Grace (homeless and substance abuse ministry); Living Right (prevention ministry) and Living Way (economic empowerment ministry) Lighthouse Frail Care Aids Unit OASIS This unit provides home-based care and counselling for people infected with or affected by HIV AIDS. OASIS is a football club (a member of the SA Football Association) that helps keep young people positively engaged and away from negative peer pressures. Its aim is to have young people play competitively while being exposed to life-skills programmes. The club works within primary schools and offers programmes that focus on HIV AIDS awareness. It also tackles issues such as gangsterism, crime and drugs and many other social ills. Over the past three years OASIS has been working with City of Cape Town local economic development department on a programme that seeks to uplift small business owners. The club will eventually work closer with the unemployed parents and youth. SA Homeless Street Soccer SA Homeless Street Soccer is a non-governmental organisation that aims to use football as a means of bringing together adults and children that live, work and sleep on the street. It also educates young people about HIV AIDS prevention and ways to improve their health and well-being. Westlake United Church Trust The Westlake United Church Trust (WUCT) aims to empower the residents of Westlake Village, particular those infected with or affected by HIV AIDS, through skills development, education and home-based care, so that it will become a self-sustaining community. The services and programmes are designed to contribute towards the alleviation of HIV AIDS and substance abuse. It facilitates projects in education, health, especially HIV AIDS, and sexual health for young people, social and support development. The organisation runs weekly HIV AIDS support groups for emotional support and lifestyle changes. It also offers training in beading and sewing so those infected with or affected by HIV AIDS can generate income. Omega educates, empowers and encourage people to gain information about HIV AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and sexually transmitted infections (STI) to apply the knowledge and skill in their community and households. The group also offers support groups for people infected with or affected by HIV AIDS, tuberculosis and STI. It encourages men to realise the importance of ARV compliance. Stand Up and Help provides a safe environment for adults and youth to become aware of HIV AIDS and to take the test freely. It creates an enabling environment for HIV AIDS awareness programmes and testing amongst adults and youth combined with fun and sport activities. Activities include sport programmes, youth football games combined with HIV awareness programmes and testing on the day of the tournament and matches. The group makes individuals aware of their responsibilities regarding substance abuse, family violence and crime. The activities include support groups, counsellors, training in basic counselling skills, and quarterly home visits. HIV AIDS counselling, drug counselling and awareness and youth development are also provided. The group also aims to help the unemployed, and those infected with and affected by HIV AIDS, generate an income. Mamelani Project South African Homeless Street Soccer The project concentrates on providing refresher courses for women who have previously been trained in health nutrition, empowering them to teach others in the community. The organisation raises awareness among street children of the dangers of HIV AIDS while teaching them soccer skills.
