General Information:
The term Allied Health is used to identify a cluster of health professions, encompassing as many as
200 health careers. Allied Healthcare jobs include cardiovascular technologists/technicians, dental
hygienists, diagnostic medical sonographers, opticians, radiologic technologists, and respiratory
therapists. There are 5 million allied health care providers in the U.S., who work in more than 80
different professions and represent approximately 60% of all health care providers The Bachelors
of Science in Allied Health program includes a foundation in general education as well as a broad
understanding of health care environments and delivery systems through the health science core
curriculum. The course of study offered through Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences
integrates current knowledge in career-oriented curricula with advanced science and liberal arts
education to prepare students for leadership roles in health related professions. A Bachelor’s of
Science provides an opportunity to expand technical expertise along with advanced educational
experiences. Skills in management, health promotion, critical thinking, and communication are
developed.
Career Possibilities:
For individuals who have completed a certificate program in an allied health professions and desire a
Bachelor’s degree. Options may include:
Paramedic
Respiratory Therapist
Occupational/Physical
Radiologic Technologist
Dental Hygienist
Therapy Assistant
Medical Assistant
Statistics:
· 2013 Annual median salary for Paramedics is $35,100; employment is expected to grow 15% by
2020.
· 2013 Annual median salary for Radiologic Technologists is $57,900; employment is expected to
grow 29% by 2020.
· 2013 Annual median salary for Dental Hygienists is $80,800; employment is expected to grow
33% by 2020.
· 2013 Annual median salary for Respiratory Therapists is $57,100; employment is expected to
grow 41% by 2020.
