Montreal, February 26th 2008 Dear colleague, The equality between women and men is a principle recognized in our society. In this field, if important progress were already achieved, much remains to be made. This established fact is largely recognized by Metropolis. For this reason the Metropolis Women International Network and the Region of Brussels-Capital initiated and co-organized on December 3, 4 and 5, 2007 the First International Forum "Dynamic Cities Need Women: Actions and Policies for Gender Equality". 650 people, of which Princess Mathilde of Belgium, took part in the opening ceremony of this major event. The various workshops brought together 450 participants, coming from 72 countries, including 27 European States. It was a frank success to be judged by this audience and the comments of satisfaction of the various partners. This forum was closed by the adoption of the Declaration of Brussels. We are pleased to transmit a copy of this text and thus requesting your support for the adoption by the deliberating authority of your organization of a resolution supporting the implementation of policies and actions favourable to the equality between men and women. We thank you for the interest you will grant to this matter and would wish to be informed of the actions undertaken and to be undertaken by your organization in this field. Counting on your collaboration, please accept, dear colleague, the expression of our most distinguished sentiment.
