President Gives First State
of the
University Address
President Jackson welcomed faculty and staff to campus on August 21 presenting his first State
of the University address focusing on four areas –student success, faculty teaching and research,
external relations, and global education.
“The root of all we represent as BHSU is student learning,” Jackson said. “Professors are the
foundation of our work.”
Jackson acknowledged faculty members for their work in service learning, collaboration, and
research.
During the address Jackson described BHSU’s history in teacher education as a strong base for
continued success. Jackson said University Center -Rapid City helps South Dakota achieve its
goal of increasing the number of individuals earning or finishing a college degree.
“University Center -Rapid City provides an access point for adult learners who are very
important to the economy and the workforce,” he said. “That’s good for South Dakota.”
BHSU Receives Two National Science Foundation Grants
The beginning of my first fall semester at
BHSU has been very memorable. From
welcoming students and faculty back to
campus, to the Jacket Ride raising funds
for veteran scholarships, to participating in
the ice bucket challenge, I’m proud to be
part of our Yellow Jacket community.
Thank you to the BHSU community of
students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends
for your help in making me feel welcome
and contributing to the success of this great
university.
I hope my monthly e-newsletter connects
you with highlights from the great
endeavors underway at BHSU. I welcome
your feedback as we continue to be Green
and Bold!
