Minutes of the Meeting of the Council of the College of Liberal and Applied Arts November 24, 2008 The meeting was called to order at 2:30 PM in Ferguson 172. Those present at the meeting: Members of the Council Perry Moon, Chair Ken Collier, Secretary Steve Marsden Walt Scalen John McDermott Julie Harrelson-Stephens Steve Taaffe John Dahmus Rhiannon Fante Sudeshna Roy Linda Bond Jeff Roth Non-Members of the Council Dr. Mark Barringer, Associate Dean Linda Levett, Communication Jerry Williams, Chair, Sociology Approval of the Minutes Dahmas moved, seconded by Stephen that the minutes of the November 10, 2008 meeting of the Council meeting be approved with minor repairs. The minutes were approved by a unanimous vote. Curriculum Proposals Communications The council took up the proposal for changes to the Communications Study program. Bond moved, seconded by Collier seconded a motion to table the Communications proposal until the next meeting. There were 6 votes in favor, 3 opposed, and 1 abstention. Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography The Council next took up the changes to the Sociology program and the addition of ANT 382 and ANT 477. McDermott moved, Bond seconded that we accept all the proposals from Sociology and Anthropology. The motion passed unanimously. Psychology 198 The Chair next put the modification of PSY 198 before the Council. Stephens moved, Roy seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Government Proposals The Council recommended adjusting the hours listed under the internship proposals in the “Other” category. Bond moved, seconded by Roy that we accept the proposals. The motion passed unanimously. Adjournment McDermott moved, seconded by Bond that the meeting be adjourned. The vote was unanimous. To accommodate additional changes to the curriculum the Council will meet on December 1. 1
