Minutes of the December 13, 2005 Meeting
I.
President Baker called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
II.
Invocation was offered by Dr. Peter Previte.
III.
Minutes from November 8, 2005 were approved as submitted.
IV.
Unfinished Business: Mr. Richard Carpenter moved approval of the list of Fall Semester 2005-2006
College of Law graduates pending completion of degree requirements. The motion was approved by
voice vote of the faculty.
V.
Questions for the President. Dr. Baker discussed the following topics:
a. Mileage reimbursement had been increased to $0.485/mile along with Federal Government
guidelines a couple of months ago. The Federal Government will be reducing reimbursement to
$0.445/mile on January 1, 2006, and the University will follow suit.
b. The Board of Trustees held a retreat in Columbus on November 18 and 19. Dr. Baker reported
that the Board continues to be very active in the interest of the University, and the retreat was very
fruitful.
c. The Holiday Spectacular has been a great success again this year. Dr. Baker indicated that the
annual event is a really good outreach activity to the Lima area and thanked all of the people
involved through the Communication Arts Department and the Freed Center for all of their hard
work and time.
d. The University Christmas party will be at the King-Horn Sports Center on Thursday.

University Council: No Report.
VII.
Reports of Constitutional Committees:
a. Budget and Appropriations. The committee will hold a joint meeting with the Personnel
Committee tomorrow.
b. Academic Affairs. No Report.
c. Student Activities. No Report.
d. Personnel. No Report.
VIII.
Reports of Operational Committees.
a. Committee on Athletics. Professor Simmons reported that the Extreme Team aerial acrobatic act
will perform at halftime at the ONU – Baldwin Wallace basketball game on December 14.
b. Cultural and Special Events. No Report.
c. International Affairs. No Report.
d. Religious Affairs. Dr. Ray Person reported that the committee will meet on Thursday to discuss
Church relations. Dr. Baker indicated that he had attended a joint session of the Methodist
Bishops to discuss the impact of the ruling of the Methodist Church Judicial Board that individual
church pastors have the exclusive right to determine who will be allowed to be members of their
churches.

New Business: None.
XI.
Announcements:
a. Dr. Andrew Ludanyi announced that Dr. David Smith will present a talk entitled “Iran, the United
States, and Democratization in Central Asia” on December 14 at 8:00 pm in Dicke Forum.
b. The next University Faculty Meeting will be on January 10, 2006 at 4:00 PM.
