Chair, Indra Canagaratna called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.
I.
MINUTES: Minutes from May 4, 2004 and September 1, 2004 were approved as submitted.
II.
REPORTS from CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITTEES:
A. Budget and Appropriations: The committee met on Monday and will hold future meetings on
Mondays throughout the quarter.
B. Academic Affairs: The committee chair is looking for a regular meeting time.
C. Student Activities: No Report.
D. Personnel: The committee has met and initiated review of the tuition remission program.
III.
REPORTS from OPERATIONAL COMMITTEES
A. Athletics: Dial-Roberson Stadium will be dedicated this coming Saturday.
B. Information Technology: Dr. Lippert reported that there continues to be a number of issues
concerning information filters and system problems that Information Technology deals with. All
incoming students were sent CDs to use to clean their computers before coming to campus this
fall.
C. Cultural & Special Events: No Report.
D. International Affairs: No Report.
E. Religious Affairs: The committee reviewed the results of the Chapel Attendance survey which was
completed in the spring by Institutional Research. The survey revealed that 28% of respondents
indicated that they don’t attend Chapel on Wednesdays due to time conflicts. Over 60% of
respondents indicated that they felt that the regular chapel time was important. People over 30
years of age tend to like the carillon bells. The bells are programmed to be silent during times that
classes are being held in the chapel.
IV.
OTHER REPORTS:
A. Vice-Presidents and Deans
1. VP Lippert: Dr. Lippert reported that external comments are being requested on the self study
that was prepared for the Higher Learning Commission visit, October 18-20. Student senate will
assist with coordinating a public meeting of students with members of the visiting evaluation
team.
2. VP Condeni: Admissions is very busy with fall recruiting events and the admissions staff is
traveling extensively.

Dean Manzer: No Report.
Dean Crago: No Report.
Dean Maris: The College of Business Administration held a very successful dedication of Dicke
Hall on September 13. Dean Maris expressed deep appreciation to the Dicke family.
B. Student Senate
1. Mr. Hosek: The campus recycling program has started up for the new school year.
Housing representative elections will be next week. Mr. Hosek praised the incoming
freshman class for their high level of involvement in campus activities.
C. Health Services Advisory committee:
1. VP Green: The committee will meet next week.
D. Other Reports: None.
V.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
• Chaplain LaSala announced that The Rev. Dr. Mel White will offer his presentation, “The
Struggle: To Be Gay and Christian in America” at the Freed Center on Monday September
27 at 8 PM.

QUESTIONS FOR THE PRESIDENT:
• Dr. Baker reported that the final enrollment report will be ready soon and will be presented
at the next Council meeting.

ADJOURNMENT: Prof. Canagaratna adjourned the meeting at 5:41. Next regular meeting of
University Council is October 5, 2004.
