Non-Tenure Track Faculty Committee
Report to the Faculty Assembly
Friday March 11, 2011
Committee members: Suzanne Cook (LAS/Languages and Cultures), Ceil Malek
(LAS/English), Laura Marshall (Education), Trellis Moore, Co-Chair (Beth-El), Mary
Bethe Neely (LAS/Chemistry), Sheri Trumpfheller, Co-Chair (Business/Accounting)
Committee Meetings: Last Friday of every month at 1:15 in Dwire.
1. Status of Rights and Responsibilities document:
David Moon has reviewed the document and given the Committee excellent feedback.
The document is currently being reviewed by the Campus legal office. Once legal
completes their review and any necessary changes are completed, the Committee will
present the document to the Associate Deans and finally to Faculty Assembly for
approval as Campus Guidelines. The Committee anticipates completing this process by
the end of the semester.
3. Senior Instructor merit:
The Committee has forwarded a motion to Promotion and Benefits requesting the three
Instructors who were promoted to Senior Instructor without the standard $3,000 raise
amount be given the appropriate amount immediately. The Senior Instructors were
identified through Institutional Research. The fiscal impact will be less than $9,000
annually. The Committee also anticipates working with Promotions and Benefits on the
issue of uncompensated merit among the Senior Instructor ranks.
4. NTTF Data Collection:
Institutional Research has provided the Committee with excellent data covering the last
academic year regarding measures of amount of courses/FTE’s covered by various
faculty groups (NTTF, Tenure Track, and others). The Committee hopes to make this an
annual report that will be posted on the NTTF website.
5. Website:
The Committee is investigating the method for updating and maintaining the NTTF
website connected to the main UCCS page.
6. LAS Developments:
The Committee is keeping abreast of the formation of a ‘DIRC’ (Dean’s Instructor
Review Committee) within LAS for the purpose of annual Instructor merit review. It
appears that the intent of the DIRC is aligned well with guidelines that are included in
the forthcoming Rights and Responsibilities document and thus represents a move
forward for the NTTF in LAS. However, there have been some issues with formation of
the DIRC and concerns have been expressed to the Committee regarding the
processes of both the formation of the DIRC and the actual Instructor reviews. We are
looking forward to working with concerned parties as this process moves forward.
