Student Congress General Meeting
13 January 2015
9:00pm- 9:45pm
o Old Business
o Catherine reached out to the Orientation Directors about ways we can
portray Hope better in the eyes of people who feel like they do not fit
in.
o New Business
o Parliamentarian Position
 Josh Briggs  Tim makes a motion to approve, Jacqueline
seconded and the vote was unanimous.
o Task Force Updates
o Community Relations: We will be having an event with Chloe and her
family here very soon, either bowling or a game night in early
February. Our fundraiser will be candygrams/balloon messages again,
same as last year.
o Board and Committee Updates
o Academic Affairs Board: We passed a new definition of a credit hour,
and the committee is now working on SALT surveys.
o Media Committee:
o Administrative Affairs Board: There will now been a formal review
every three years for faculty that are not tenured or on the tenure
track. Also, on each of the boards that are on campus, the faculty
requirement will be two-year appointments to help with continuity of
conversations and allow more to get done in the calendar year.
 In terms of student congress, will we be having a plan in place
as well to ease the continuity of students who sit on the board?
Our constitution is up for review this semester, but if that is
something we are interested in doing, we can add that to the
new constitution.
o Officer Reports
o Andrew discussed the mission statement, values, goals, and objectives
of Student Congress with Rob Pocock, Jordan Dennen, and Chris and
came up a way to re-invent congress. This comes at a great time
because of the constitutional review board.
 We are going into an eight task force set-up that way we can
accomplish more and be more productive.
 Recruitment (Ryan)- Will work a lot with Rochelle (or VP’s to
come) come election time.
 Internal Strengthening (Jay)- working within congress to
strengthen its members from the inside
Dance Marathon (Jacqueline)- Working with Chole and her
family and fundraising for the event in March.
 Advocacy (Tim)- Campus climate and culture issues that may
be harder to access that could use the help from Student
Congress, advocating for issues that are affecting campus
climates.
 Leadership (Shiku)- Skills development, focusing mostly
internally. This task force may bring in people to speak at our
meetings, or career development to go over Strengths Quest,
etc.
 Campus Relations (Rosemarie)- More of the material goods
side (i.e. more drinking fountains), cider and donuts, etc. What
we really want to include in this task force is getting a more
accurate view of student’s opinions on campus about
important events/concerns.
 Visibility (Hope)- This task force will work on promoting other
things occurring on campus from other student organizations
and what not.
 Sustainability (Spencer)- Green team!
o In the Fall, this will be different since we will not yet have our
freshman class representatives, but that is okay. We have this
structure so that we can have a more fluid congress and give congress
a fresh start with the rebranding and constitutional review that we
are undergoing.
o If you would like to serve on more than one task force, that is okay,
However, please understand that some may be smaller than others.
