Statement by the City’s Executive Mayor, Patricia de Lille Mayor De Lille warns of fake Facebook profile It has been brought to my attention that a fake Facebook profile and e-mail account have been created in my name. I wish to confirm that I do not have a personal Facebook profile, but rather an official Facebook page (Patricia de Lille – Mayor of Cape Town) which is used to communicate the work in my office and the City of Cape Town to social media audiences. I am deeply disturbed by this false Facebook profile that has been created. What is even more concerning is that this person is communicating to ‘friends’ that they have added on Facebook and offering jobs which do not exist. This is a scam and I urge all Facebook users to be cautious about this account as it is in no way linked to myself or my office. The e-mail address Dpatriciadelille@yahoo.com is also not my e-mail address. My office has reported this e-mail address to Yahoo and has reported the Facebook page as a false account to the administrators. The matter will also be reported to the South African Police Service. I will be looking into the matter further to establish who is responsible for using my name to mislead and lie to people. I urge people to be cautious and alert with social media at all times as there are many opportunists who use social media for all kinds of illegal activities or to scam people.
