Who Should Attend
Registration
The course is designed for gastroenterologists, GI surgeons, internists and family
practice physicians with an interest in gastroenterology and hepatology.
The registration fee entitles the participant admission to the conference, all course
materials, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshment breaks during the meeting.
Purpose and Content
Enrollment is confirmed upon receipt of registration fee. We are unable to
process any registration without payment. Please register early. We cannot
guarantee course materials on site to those registering later than February 3,
2012.
The purpose of this course is to provide an update in various current issues of
gastroenterology, hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease. The program includes
didactic lectures, case presentations and question and answer sessions with the course
faculty.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to link the educational
objectives to Core Competencies and be able to:
• Explain new and current treatment strategies for eosinophilic esophagitis
(Medical Knowledge and Patient Care)
• Review physiology, diagnostic options and management of Barretts epithelium
(Medical Knowledge, Patient Care and Practice-Based Learning)
• Describe the safety of clopidogrel during colonoscopic polypectomy
(Medical Knowledge and Practice-Based Learning)
• Assess clinical aspects of Clostrida difficile infection in 2012
(Medical Knowledge and Practice-Based Learning)
• Express the safety and feasability of nurse-assisted propofol administration
during endoscopic procedures (Medical Knowledge, Patient Care and
Practice-Based Learning)
• Review the interactions and side effects of PPI therapy
• Analyze the screening guidelines for hereditary colon cancer (Medical Knowledge)
• Describe the new and current treatments for Hepatitis C (Medical Knowledge
and Practice-Based Learning)
• Examine the recent developments in Hepatology presented at AASLD
(Medical Knowledge)
• Discuss current medical management of patients with chronic liver disease
and liver transplantation (Medical Knowledge, Patient Care and PracticeBased Learning)
• Discuss current management of Hepatitis B (Medical Knowledge and
Practice-Based Learning)
• Illustrate the new biologic agents available for IBD, and to understand some
of the more difficult clinical aspects of caring for the IBD patients such as
vaccination guidelines, cervical cancer screening, and drug use during
pregnancy and breast feeding (Medical Knowledge, Patient Care and
Practice-Based Learning)
• Report on current and new modalities for interventional endoscopy in
diseases of the gallbladder, liver and pancreas (Medical Knowledge, Patient
Care and Practice-Based Learning)
Accreditation
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide
continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit Designation
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center designates this
educational activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.
Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.
Conflict of Interest
It is UT Southwestern’s policy that participants in CME activities should be made
aware of any affiliation or financial interest that may affect the speaker’s presentation(s).
Each speaker has completed and signed a conflict of interest statement. The faculty
