International Student Orientation Schedule (Spring 2016)
For New Undergraduate and Graduate International Students
Friday, February 5
Morning Session
Required for all incoming graduate and undergraduate international students (including transfers and ELI students)
Location: TRABANT STUDENT CENTER: Multipurpose Rooms A, B and C

Check-in with representatives from the Office for International Students and Scholars, who will report your arrival at
UD with the US government. Bring your original passport, visa and I-20 or DS-2019 with you.

Once you have checked-in, join us for a light breakfast before the presentations begin. Meet other new students as
well as current UD student “experts”.

The Office for International Students and Scholars will explain important immigration policies and give advice about
how to maintain your legal status in the United States.

Representatives from Public Safety, Health Insurance, Student Health Services, Student Counseling and Wellness will
explain the resources available to you as a UD student and help answer questions.

In this session, we welcome Deputy City Manager Andrew Haines, who will speak about the services available to you
in the City of Newark, and opportunities for engagement.
10:40Personal Rights and American Culture

Staff from the Office for International Students and Scholars and the Office for Equity and Inclusion will give you a
brief overview of what to expect when interacting with Americans. Topics include your personal rights, equality,
individualism, attitudes about time and work, as well as non-verbal communication you may encounter.

Representatives from Career Services, Residence Life & Housing, Student Financial Services, and PNC Bank will
explain the resources available to you as an international student at UD and help answer questions.

Join us for lunch and continue discussions regarding resources at UD. Please follow the ISO leaders to the Cafeteria
in the Trabant Center. Use the ISO meal card to purchase your lunch and meet with experienced students to learn
about life at UD.

Note: You must attend every session to receive your UDID card.
Meet Your College: In this important meeting, representatives from your college will explain what to
expect for your specific academic course of study.

Transfer Credit
Charlene Bradley, from the Registrar’s Office will explain important information about transcripts and
transfer credit.
ID Card, Academic Advising
During this time, students can obtain their ID card, attend an academic advising appointment, open a
bank account, or take care of other business.

The tradition starts now! Join us for a special International Coffee Hour (ICH) dedicated to YOU, our
newest international students. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be served. Come meet and
mingle with members of the ISAC group and the Blue Hens Global Connection student association.

Saturday, February 6 | Trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond
Optional Location: Busses will pick-up at 44 Kent Way
Join representatives from Bed, Bath and Beyond for a morning and afternoon of shopping and prizes. Receive a 10% discount on
essentials like towels, sheets, pillows, and even some food items on this exclusive shopping trip! Learn more about Bed Bath and
Beyond at their website at www.bedbathandbeyond.com. Buses will pick up students at 44 Kent Way at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

Friday, February 12 | International Coffee Hour Launch
Location: 44 Kent Way
Join us on Friday at 4:00 PM for the launch of our weekly Coffee Hour for live music! Meet and mingle with new and returning
international students, as well as friends and family of the international community at UD. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be
served.
Thursday, February 25 | Social Security Bus Trip
Optional Location: 44 Kent Way
Sign up for this bus trip, which will shuttle students and scholars to and from the Social Security Administration. Pick up is outside of
OISS at 44 Kent Way at 8:00 AM. You can also go on this trip to receive a letter of ineligibility. You must bring with you your signed
Social Security Eligibility form, employment letter, and immigration documents. To sign up and to find out more information, please
