In order to keep up with the growth and services of the UCCS campus, the Facilities Services
department has organized itself into two primary
areas; Planning & Construction and Physical
Plant Maintenance. The Planning & Construction
team is actively working major projects including the Science and Engineering Bldg (SENG),
Events Center, and the renovation of the existing
Science Bldg. The Physical Plant team includes
five work groups; Maintenance, Grounds, Electrical, Plumbing/HVAC, and Custodial. Their
responsibilities include maintaining 890,675
square feet of General Fund buildings along with
250 acres of landscaped property. Our Facilities
Services administrative team is the glue that
keeps our teams connected. Each team is committed to the continued improvement of the
UCCS campus and serving you.
The Plumbing /HVAC crew
consists of four members,
two HVAC technicians and
two plumbers, each having
20 to 30 years of field experience.
Ralph Henline and Tim Lowder provide the Heating Cooling and Air Conditioning
(HVAC) expertise for the
Department. Ralph Henline
has been the „Go to person‟ for
HVAC issues for our Campus
for the past six years. Tim
Lowder joined our team
within this last year and is a
huge help to Ralph. They
have also been involved with
ECM (Energy Conservation
Measures), and the MUCC
Committee. This has helped
save the campus money and
energy. Ralph and Tim‟s responsibilities include all General Funded Buildings as well
as smaller buildings and rental
properties. Ralph and Tim
are obviously great assets to
the Campus Community.
Eddie Medina, our journeyman plumber along with Marcus Davis, the master
plumber are responsible for
the Campus plumbing
issues. Eddie and Marcus
have also been involved with
ECM projects and remodels
such as the change out of 3.5
gallon to 1.6 gallon type dual
flush toilets and urinals campus wide. Our plumbing staff
duties include water treatment
for cooling and heating systems, Backflow and Fire
Pump Testing, and code upgrades on existing systems
and equipment. Eddie and
Marcus can often be seen
traveling from one end of
campus to the other.
The Plumbing/HVAC crew
is involved in many behind
the scenes projects as well.
These include plan reviews,
design and builds, bid proposals, inspections, DDC systems
control, snow removal ,
meetings with contractors
and city officials on a daily
basis. Emergency calls on
weekends, holidays, and the
middle of the night, though
rare, are considered to be
“part of the teams‟ responsibilities”. All this effort helps
keep our campus community
running smooth and efficiently so we can provide the
best environment for our
students to learn. As our
beautiful campus continues
to grow and meet new challenges, it is nice to know that
we have one of the best
qualified teams in the industry.
And the WINNER IS!!!
Recently, our department
held its‟ 2nd Annual Chili
Cookoff. Eleven pots
of chili were submitted
with all the fixin‟s, a random group of taste testers
cast their votes, and the
winner is. . LIZ
QUINTANA from our
custodial crew. Liz services the Science Building.
The prize is a large
wooden spoon with an
engraved tag to hang up!
This year for even more
fun, we named
our pots of chili
with names like
“The Bomb” (Liz‟s chili),
“Somber Godzilla Chili”,
“Hurricane
Rick‟s Chili”, “Tillie‟s
Chili”, “Jose‟s Green
Flame” and “Beano
Blaster” among others.
We do this each October and always have the
best time!
Snow and Ice Season has begun! For the Facilities crew, this means „Snow Events’ and „Essential personnel’-- very
early mornings and late nights too, interruption of weekend plans and regular duties during the week, sore muscles for
those that shovel, and long, physical hours. During these events, we appreciate all your calls and emails alerting us to
problem areas around campus. WE COUNT ON YOU to inform us of problem areas you may find by calling x3313
or emailing dely@uccs.edu. As a safety reminder, please dress appropriately for these events. Properly treaded shoes for
traveling to and from your vehicle are most essential and please travel on walkways that have been attended to if possible. We want to reduce the rate of slips and falls as much as possible. Also, drive safely and be courteous to other drivers especially during inclement weather. Be aware that our vehicles are plowing and spreading sand and ice melt all over
campus as quickly and efficiently as possible.
